A Bordeaux blend that varies slightly from year to year. This one is Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Higher Plane is part of the Juniper Estate portfolio, and the vineyard is located at the southern end of Margaret River.
Deep purple in colour, crimson at the rim. The Malbec component leaps out of the glass first, with violets and blackberries dominating. There's also considerable leather, tobacco, and red fruits. The palate is soft and full, with ripples of fruit over grainy tannins. Acid is noticeable on the front of the tongue as are tangy red fruits. The leather persists on the palate as well. It's medium to full bodied, and finishes reasonably long.
Possibly a little too savoury on the finish for my palate, at this point in its development.

Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.
