May 2020 Purchases

Post by phillisc »

Sort of an impulse buy, but sort of not and drawing the excuse from the lady I live with who signed up to the winery. She said she really liked these wines when she tasted them a little while ago...so these are for her
6 2018 Mollydooker The Boxer
6 2018 Mollydooker Blue Eyed Boy

I really like MV Shiraz, has a greater richness and balance than a lot of Barossa stuff...and often a good deal cheaper....this certainly was :D
Good counter to all that bloody Coonawarra Cabernet!!
Cheers Craig

Mixed case from Giant Steps. The 2019 whites look like the bomb.
Castagna en primeur should get shipped this month too.

Other than that, I'm still getting over the April buying...

This was a Feb pre-order, arrived in April and paid for in May - so it gets classified as a May purchase

2 x 2017 Cecille Tremblay Chambolle Musigny
2 x 2017 Cecille Tremblay Chambolle Musigny Les Feusselottes

another rarity available in NZ in tiny quantities.

More Boodle's English Gin. They're being cleared out and with summer approaching and it being one of the other half's favoured aperitifs I decided to stock up. I called and asked them to put their remaining bottles on hold.

4 x Boodles English Gin (45.2%) 1 litre - C$30.52 all in!!

Another birthday in April and my wife signs me up for another years subscription to a wine club. This is posh version and I almost hit the roof when I found out the cost.
Still after a few emails 12 bottles were delivered today - I think it’s 6 per quarter, but Covid has had an impact.
6 are my sort of wines - a red each from Macadonia and Croatia, a white from Pheasants Tears and a few natural style others. The 2nd 6 pack was rather classic.

09 Jamet Cote Rotie
98 Laurent Mazis-Chambertin
09 Hospice De Baune Corton Grand Cru
10 Egon Muller Kabinet,
15 Boekenhoutskloof Syrah
90 Albala PX

Yes, difficult to fault their selection, though I imagine the cost is quite something.

Olek Bondonio Roncagliette Barbaresco 2017 - 90 bottles

Olek Bondonio Starderi Barbaresco 2017 - 6 magnums

It's pretty tough over that way. Chatting Olek on what's app. Bought all these direct and as much as I'd like to keep many, will distribute amongst wine friends.

Hi Mike
Unfortunately mine won't be delivered until August so a long way off...and my consumption of champagne is typically dinner party stuff which is clearly not on the cards given Singapore lock down conditions. I'll get the Krug delivered before the Henriot so I probably won't be touching the Henriot until September earliest. My purchase was pretty much on the back of a cheap price (not sure how it compares in Australia), a friend's recommendation and Tyson Stelzers raving review. Seemed like an easy option!

I was really impressed trying one of the Standish wines at the last offline I got to in Adelaide. I am trying to buy as little Aussie wine as possible since my cellar is "full" and it doesn't look like I will be living there or even able to visit easily anytime soon, but I wanted to get something to look at in about 20 years, maybe drink in honour of the 20th anniversary of this strange COVID period ...

1x 2018 Lamella
1x 2018 The Standish
1x 2018 The Schubert Theorem.

(Personally most excited about the Lamella as I am a big fan of Eden Valley reds. Really like the Charles Melton Voices of Angels for example, must have four vintages of that in the cellar).

Pat think you might mean sjw_11 (aka Sam) re Standish.

Not sure that these are mjs's cup of tea, but I could be wrong.
Pulled the trigger and got a few myself...sheesh hope the job holds out...Marius and Wendouree next, (3 very different styles of Shiraz from three distinct regions...oh well a bit of variety)
Cheers Craig

Nice drop, if a little tart and tannic at this stage. Great bones that I'm hoping flesh out in a few years (or more).
