No doubt will get a few more later in the year when I visit the CD...that's if we are allowed to   .
Cheers Craig
Where do you put all this wine, Craig? You must have a mineshaft as a cellar. :D
George, you are starting to make me feel very guilty
I am in many many minds about wine buying. Do I round out a few verticals at the 2020 vintage. Am I still chasing bargains?? Riesling purchases are finally dropping off. Yes its a fair bit, however, I think I will go hard over the next 2 vintages and then that might be it
As for the 'mineshaft' unfortunately no. All wine is stored off site in a unit roughly 4x4 and shelves 3 metres high...its getting close to capacity but confident of jamming a bit more in.
A neighbour has just put in an 8x5x3 CM hole as part of a renno. By my estimations that would accommodate 800 dozen/10 000 bottles..if only!!
We just need to do more offlines when this Covid thing blows over.
Cheers
Craig

Absolutely no more red wine!
Grab 2012 Pinot dominant and 2013 Chardonnay dominant champers. Some really good wines from those 2 vintages, though 2012 was a really low yielding vintage. Mike

March was the first time I can remember where I never ordered a single bottle of wine. Felt weird. Pay day and my birthday today, so treated my self to mixed cases of

2018 Vino Volta Chenin (the Funky and the Flor Version)
2019 Dr Edge Single Vineyard Chardonnay
This is my church, this is where I heal my hurts.

Nice trifecta

Fontodi excellent value for money.

The Felsina, for me, much riper fruit and more polished, but still great.

We have a few Rancia but have not tried. I have heard good things about it.

Virtual tasting?

For my taste, the Rancia is world class Sangiovese but it really needs a long time in the cellar to show its true colours. I have it back to 2001 and this is superb right now. I know what you mean by more polished, for me this means better and more subtle tannin management but it does not mean (to my taste) modern oaky flavours at all.

Agree. Less a reflection of oak and more attention to balance and fruit concentration. Not to say the Fontodi lacks either fruit or balance, just the Felsina presents it more apparent.

Just did a quick wine searcher look at the 2016 Felsina CCR Rancia. Jeez A$140 to A$150 vs the NZ$90 I paid. You guys are being robbed!

Loved the 99 Rancia Riserva late last year. All class and very fresh still.

yup, really good vintage in Tuscany. Felsina wines are well made, great ageability and in the current pricing madness, still actually fairly priced (for what is in the bottle).

In the last 15 years my price on the Rancia has gone up 50%. I wish some of the other wines I loved were like that. Don't get me started on some of burgundys!

Actually the price control winner for me is Chave Hermitage, gone up a grand total of NZ$20 in the last 13 years.

hope you are drinking well

I bought both of those too Ozzie. I have a lot of faith in this producer as being very adaptable, ahead of the times, whilst preserving what many of us love best in Barolo. I've pushed this for a few years now and I'm seeing a few fellow tragics falling their way after trying some back vintages. I really do think Runcot clouds perceptions.

Picked up an
06 Piero Benevelli Barolo
And a couple of other Barolos. Throwing my hat back in the ring after a couple of years of not buying piedmont’s wines.

Also super happy with the deals at Único Zelo. I’m a big fan. I got 18 bottles with a focus of their Nebs, Nero’s and a couple of ambers and Fiano.

2 x 2014 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino
1 x 2012 Fiorenzo Nada Seifile
1 x 2012 Fiorenzo Nada Manzola

Rounding out the Nada line up. From what I understand 2012 was a good vintage.

Looking forward to hearing how the 06 Piero Benevelli drinks.

I don't know too much about Único Zelo, better look it up!

Yep but as another punter on the forum already pointed out, it's no longer single vineyard

The online store I normally buy from in Italy has the 2017 for €42 or about $70 AUD.

Maybe I will try one if I order from them again (I have six bottles from them trapped in limbo at my office if security didn't drink them, which crossed over with our sudden lock down) .. hmm actually they have it for 10% off that in a mixed six of different chianti, for some reason I rarely buy chianti, maybe that is worth a punt.
