TN: Chard Farm 'River Run' Pinot Noir 2013 (Central Otago)

Post by Waiters Friend »

Bright garnet in colour. Decanted immediately before service, and cherry aromas leapt out of the decanter.

Bright and dark cherries on the nose, with a little earthiness. Rose petals and five spice. The palate is soft and harmonious, with the cherries and strawberries gently meshing with moderate acid and fine, almost imperceptible tannins. Medium finish only, but a concentration of flavour as you swallow.

Very pleasant, but possibly a bit simpler than I was expecting.
Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.

This is pretty entry level, and 2013 was prone to make wines just like this - bright pretty and straightforward.

I do rather like Chard Farm, their wines are fairly reserved in the Central Otago context. The single vineyard wines are very tasty.

Great drive way access
The range is confusing for me
The Bragato or Judge & Jury is gone

Yes they make a lot of them now, but I thought the hierachy was something like (bottom to top)

Rabbit Ranch
Finla Mor
Mata Au
Tiger
Viper
and now the Mason Vineyard which cant be too far from the Viper Vineyard.

Bragato is about 20 years gone, and Judge and Jury hasn't been around for a bit either.

You really should visit, and report back on how their wines are now :)
