TN: Killerby Chardonnay 2012

Post by Waiters Friend »

Killerby Wines used to live just north of the Margaret River region (about 10 km south of Bunbury). Some years ago, it was acquired by the Great Southern producer Ferngrove, and all the wines in the Killerby portfolio disappeared - with the exception of their Margaret River Chardonnay. I've been buying this on and off for over 15 years.

Medium yellow in colour. Developed and somewhat savoury nose With nectarine and soft peach fruit diminishing. There's grilled nuts and a little citrus as well. The palate continues savoury and dry, with a little lees texture and cleansing acid. Its a reasonable weighty wine, but not extremely so.

At its peak and possibly starting the downhill slide. There's no unpleasant characters here, but it is losing a little balance. I think the 2011s are looking a touch better.

Cheers

Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.

I used to love Killerby wines - I think they had a very nice Cabernet.

I thought they had relocated to somewhere near Mandurah at some stage about 10 years ago, but maybe not. :?

The last time I saw Killerby wines a year or so ago I think, they were being sold out of the Cheeky Monkey Brewery in Margaret River.

Cheers
