Maybe not my wines of the year, but the ones that were really surprising from last year were
1990 Rosemount Estate CabSauv - given enough time to open up, this was surprisingly fresh, with cherries and plums trying to belie the nose, which was telling me that it had been lying down just long enough. I really didn't want a coffee after dinner as the taste was something I wanted to savour - and this was at one of Paringa's "bring your own bottle" nights - so the food was pretty good also.
1997 Anderson Pinot/Chardonnay - anyone who likes a good vintage Champagne would probably be fooled by this one. I'm really glad I've got at least one of these left (and one of the 1999 sparking Shiraz also).
2012 Paringa Houseblock Chardonnay - wine of the night at the Paringa truffle dinner and managed to pick up a couple last December. I got turned of Chardonnay in a big way during the over-oaked period, but wines such as this have turned me around. Quite light and fruity (with a long afterburner) on release, they can still age well (I'm hoping this is true for this one).

Hi Jonathan,

Sounds like your Rosemount Estate Cabernet was in fine form. Was it from the Coonawarra? The reason I ask is that my 1983 is Coonawarran and is slated to be opened sometime soon.

Cheers ...................... Mahmoud.
