Best cask wine

My missus wants to know what you experts reckon is the best cask wine. She likes Cabernet Sav?

Hello Nev,

I did not think anyone would answer your question but then I realised that I actually have a serious answer for you.

The best cask wine I believe available is the 10 Litre Wine Cask at Kay Brothers in McLaren Vale. It is $70. It is a blend of Grenache, Mataro, Pinot Noir and Shiraz. Although there is no Cabernet in the blend, I reckon you will get away with it as long as you don't tell the wife. Any Cabernet in a cask is typically green and stalky. Yuk! This way, you too might actually enjoy the cask wine.

Have not drunk from a cask for many years but from memory some of the 2 litre boxes were OK. Morris, Stanley and Renmano come to mind. I think De Bortoli had a reasonable one as well.

The wine guide I most recently read said the Queen Adelaide Regency Red was the best red cask wine. I gave up on cask red wine a few years ago.

With bottles of Sacred Hill for $4 I couldn't see the point of casks. Mine usually sat in the cupboard for too long and went off.

I am not exactly sure what you mean but...
They have them at the cellar door. I don't think there is any stock shortage. The only unusual thing about these, I think, is that the cost of freight for 1 cask is the same as the amount for 2, as 2 fit conveniently in a standard case of wine.

Oh, in that case, the is yes and no. It is only available from the cellar door. You order them direct from the winery.

Nev, I have to agree with the guest's remarks although I would have put it a little differently.

In my younger days I used to have fun trolling through forums and baiting people and mocking them and your posts show all the typical characteristics of a classic troller

Taking the pi$$ can be fun but you have to know when to stop. The people on here have a genuine shared interest in something and have genuinely tried to help you. It's poor form to continue mocking them.

If I am wrong I apologise to you but I suspect I am not.

if you buy enough of them they make a terrific substitute for sandbags in threatening flood situations!

Nev > go the Renmano 4 litre Shiraz/cab/merlot pressings blend. its quite ok in my book. also, check the date on the top of the box. fresher the better...

Actually, the aim of a troll is normally to get the 'locals' arguing with each other. Doesn't seem to work here. Folks raise one eyebrow, respond as if the inquirer is serious, a lot of interesting info is exchanged, and no-one goes beserk at each other. Very civilised!
