The entry level label from SRC. I believe this is 90% Nerello Mascalese and 10% of other varieties. 14% ABV.
I've had some growing concerns about the viability of aging these zero SO2 wines from SRC. I've read some comments here and there that bottles were completely stuffed, mostly from the 2016 vintage (some mentioned loose corks). SRC switched to cork from Diam for the 2016 vintage.
So I decided to to open a bottle of my oldest SRC wine that I've cellared perfectly for 3 years since release. Phew! No issues with this bottle. In fact, it's a little ripper!
Clean as a whistle. Lovely structure and mouthfeel. Rich red fruits, rose water, tar, licorice, ash, earth. Powdery tannins and balanced acid. No oak. Long finish. Everything I want in an Etna Rosso. Years of development still ahead for this wine.
P.S. I plan to open a 2016 vintage sometime soon.
