Thanks Matt, a couple of Auswine punters are heading down next month for the Wynns end of vintage function which includes a full tasting of the new releases...reports will be duly lodged.
Unfortunately an OS trip sees me not attending.
I am really pleased that there are some prudent decisions taking place with Sue and Allen Jenkins (chief viticulturist at Wynns) regarding weather and grape quality, and subsequently not releasing any of the top marques from the 17 vintage.
The 17 release will resemble the 2011 and there will be a staged release I expect, otherwise 18 BL will need to do a lot of heavy lifting.
It might also be an opportunity to reassess the V&As. I have roughly 8 vintages of these, but are thinking many are inconsistent, the straight Shiraz some years is really good, but then its often smashed by the Cab Shiraz blend. With anywhere between 11 and 13 wines per vintage coming from one region, the portfolio is too big to be sustainable.

I was fortunate to attend Sue's 25th vintage celebrations a couple of years ago, where it was let out of the bag that the single vineyard release could deviate from a straight Cabernet....good to see.
The 16s will cost me a kidney, maybe two but thankfully the 17 release might just be a 6 pack of BL...so it averages out.

Guess there will be a bit more noise early August

Yes, good article. Sue H and Wynn’s continuing to show integrity in not releasing the premium labels when quality/quantity is not there. Of course, the 17 BL should benefit from that decision. Not sure it will be quite the same as the ‘11 though, which by the way, I understanding is travelling ok now.

As one of those ”Auswine punters” mentioned by Craig, I’m expecting that we might get a peek at this year’s releases with a bit of luck. Looking forward to a masterclass tasting there as well as a dinner at Mayura Station, wagyu and Wynns
