TN: Castelli Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Post by Waiters Friend »

The grapes for this come from Frankland River, which I have become a fan of for top Shiraz and Riesling. Some of the Cabernets are no slouch either, but, like the Clare Valley, are slightly overshadowed by the Shiraz on the publicity front.

This is deep purple-black in the glass. There's up-front blackcurrant, a touch of raspberry, and a burst of eucalypt, and I would have picked this as a Coonawarra cab based on the nose. There's also a fair whiff of toasty oak to support the fruit aromas.

The palate is a cross of sweet berry fruit and mocha and is well supported by the grippy and chunky tannins. It's medium bodied without being overly powerful, and the finish is of reasonable length without being overly long.

I'm drinking this too young, and I probably should not open the next one for a couple of years.

Cheers
Allan

Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.
