A friend of mine has picked up a bottle of Schloss Gobelberg Riesling for me, a 2011 single vineyard wine from Austria that he found. He says he paid $20 for what he says is a $40-50 wine. Sounded good to me.

I presented one at an offline last year (my one and only bottle), and it still wasnt ready to drink.

You are 100% right, you just dont see them anywhere so snapped them up when I found some

I have three '02 Chook Block left, the last tasting was in Vancouver in 07, typically with Canadian elk carpaccio, smoked caribou and moose nuggets finishing off with a turducken!
Strange drink we have here in Canada.

A great range of wines and if I am honest the Rifle Range Cabernet is a brilliant brilliant wine, multiple Cabernet blocks to choose from, so earthy restrained, savory, the gentlest of oak and tannin, but a lot of power on the palate overall...this will age beautifully.

For the other, 'Is BP worth it thread', the 2015 is a medium weight with restrained fruit, but all there in terms of mouth feel and potential. Absolutely no presence of oak at all with many components of this wine spending 9 months in large vats, much in the St Henri style. Only 3-5% of the blend sees new small barrels. Staff in the Stonewall CD fabulous as always.

I have said it a few times, I think Rifle Range is their best wine in the lineup.

I have had 02, 06, 10 and 12 and they are simply sublime. Let's hope the corks hold up

How was the stonewaller lunch Craig?

Michael, actually booked in for later in the year for a Saturday lunch, not this time alas. There is a new section affectionately known as the kennel as it was an old shed of sorts where the dogs used to sleep. After years of leaks, rot and neglect it has been turned into a new Stonewallers dining room, looks very speccy. The party of 12 all known to each other as they turned up in a couple of station wagon Barossa taxis together, looked very much like they were having a good time.

We went to Fino at Seppeltsfield, bit of a favourite and did the 5 course shared plates thingy which was excellent...plus a heaps of wines by the glass and a mini fortified flight which was a nice treat...rolled out literary at somewhere round half four or so. All in all a great day.

Thanks Craig, hadn't heard about the new room/kennel, i can imagine how good it must be though. Has been nearly 10 years since my only Stonewaller lunch, might be just the excuse to finally organise another. Fino sounds like an excellent alternative though.

Been 12 months since last visit and saw the building works of the new SW room then. I had a quick look inside yesterday before they closed it up and i was very impressed. Great room with character; timber beams, old red floor bricks, fireplace...in line with the current SW tasting room but with timber (sauna-like) exterior. More room and great feel. It will further add to the experience.

Con, seems we have similar tastes in Victorian wines, and may have received the same offers re Yarra Yering. I brought a mixed dozen of the 16s but unfortunately could not stretch to the Carrodus. I take it the rest here were retail buys, perhaps not the Seppelt?

Need to buy more Bin 0, have a good run from 90-02, but nothing recent.

Hi Craig.

These were all retail purchases and yes I got a number of offers on the Yarra Yering.

I’ve been trying to fill in some gaps of Aussie wines that I’ve neglected in recent years.

All my Bin 0’s are more recent than your, I have most vintages from 08 to 16 and will probably bury these in the back of the cellar.
I do have 2 or 3 bottles of all vintages except 1997 of the Thomson Family Shiraz.

I think I stopped buy Seppelt St Peters when the winery got put up for sale.
I'm not sure if it did sell, does anybody know?

TWE still own Seppelt. They ship grapes from Great Western to the Barossa as the winemaking facilities have closed down. The cellar door, tunnels and some function/accommodation buildings are leased to Great Western Enterprises who are now running the show there.

Cheers Con, yes will probably do a bit of back filling on the Bin 0...Great Western Shiraz for me is probably more enjoyable than Barossa to be honest, certainly much better value anyway, apart from the Thompsons (pretty expensive) which I only have a few vintages in the 90s of...the 2012 was the best Shiraz at the Langtons 5th Classification by a street.

Yes Ozzie is right wine making operations now closed and just a a bit of a show piece now...must have another look, 20 years since I did a drives tour.
