TN: Seppelt Chalambar Shiraz 2005

I last tasted this about a year ago from magnum, and it was a crowd pleaser. This is from a standard bottle.

Deep purple in colour, no bricking. Developed nose with dark plums, blackberries, and a touch of red fruits. There's a lot of savoury notes as well, from oak and from age (leather), as well as a delicious touch of clove or cinnamon. The fruit is taking a back seat on the palate, with some mocha, and the tannins have integrated quite well. The wine is medium bodied, and leads to a moderate finish.

This was better from the magnum a year ago. It's more than drinkable, but has lost a little of the freshness (maybe not a surprising thing at 14 years of age). The 2004 tasted recently (http://forum.m.auswine.com.au/forum3/viewto ... =1&t=16176) was in better nick.

Had one of these mid last year. My note just said "Nothing spectacular, but good wine". Must have been a bit uninspiring/lacking freshness as you note. Still have one left.

I have a few of these. By the sounds of it I need to start getting drinking them.

Opened my two magnums in July last year (2018). Looked really good - perfect for the better half's 50 lunch party. I had marked them down for drinking as the last couple of standard bottles the year before were fading. Ah the vagaries of cork.
