According to the winery, they have the first and only plantings of Durif in W.A. They've made this wine for the past few years, and I have always thought on initial tasting that they were too young, and needed at least a couple of years before opening for the first time. I've done exactly that, and this is the first bottle I have opened. 15.1% alcohol.
Deep purple red in colour. Powerful nose with lots of ripe dark berries, vanillan oak, dark chocolate, and a touch of leather polish. The palate is silky, with the fruit flowing cleanly across the mid palate. Tannins are traditionally big in durifs, but they are not overly prominent in this wine - indeed, they sit quite nicely in a supporting role. The wine has a long finish.
This is good and interesting drinking indeed for under $30.
Cheers
Allan

Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.
