Just been looking back through my Langtons purchases - it's a real mixed-bag. There's a few things where I've got a bit carried away & overbid on the odd bottle that I really want, but there's a few good bargains in there as well - a few halves of 2014 Doisy Daene, a magnum of Coppermine Road, a bottle of 2014 Clerc Milon at half the price I see it listed for elsewhere...

Not intending to brag about any of these - just mention that the bargains are out there if you have the patience & dedication to trawl through the site.

However... The volume that passes through the site is really astonishing, compared to similar sites that I used to use in the UK (though the secondary market there works very differently).

and if you don't want to trawl through the list you can give them a couple of wines in the years you are looking for and they will alert you when they are coming up in auction.

Wow clearly times have changed at Langton's for vendors. My only interaction with Langton's as a vendor was very poor. Supposedly my wine sold, and after some period of non-payment I was told the winning bidder returned the unopened bottles because they claimed the 1-2 bottles consumed were not up to scratch (which I seriously doubted at the time). Mind you they did not bother to tell me this until I queried why I had not been paid.
Let's just say with Langton's once bitten twice shy.

I just want to test the water with you guys. Amongst other wines, I sent some Tyrrells Vat 47 to be auctioned off. Three of these bottles were broken in transit whilst in Langton's care. They offered to pay me the low estimation of $35 pb. That was fine, not sheep stations, but now I also see they have also charged me my vendors commission. Now that has riled me up. Once again, not much outright money, but I believe they really just should have paid me the low estimate and been done with it. Thoughts?

I think charging you the vendors commission is right...based on the fact that you would have paid that if it had gone to auction...so essentially these bottles sold for the low estimate as if it went to auction.

The amount it would have sold for at auction is the dispute...you owe the commission having used their service...

Something positive i have noticed from the selling side. Funds have been deposited into my acount within 4 days. It use to take up to a month.

Your argument should be that the low estimate price isn't enough and you can provide data to the contrary..eg. What it last sold for or something that is in the middle estimate.

I’ve been getting mine really quickly, too. Much faster than, say, 18 months ago.

Yeap...that's what I would probably argue is the most current reflection of what it would have went for had it made it to auction. But even with that I'd expect to pay commission as well....

You would pay around 60 at retail, 75 for the 15 at the winery

Well according to the site..

2014 Tyrrells Vat 47. Estimated Range is: 35-45 and last went for 32.

Low estimate is probably pretty fair.

Yeah that was my Wine, some at $32 and also $35. Glad I didn’t ask Donald Trump, he would have slammed a 20% tariff on Langtons!

Yes, always having to wait 2+ weeks. Of all companies I buy wine off, Langston’s are the slowest wrt delivery

Usually I have been getting min in about 5 working days...we are now at 10 working/business days and nothing.
PLUS I have another delivery that is now at 5 working days and still no notifications.

I have actually held off buying anything from them for now till they pick their game up.

That's nothing - I used to deal with brokers in the UK who would quote 3 months, and almost certainly fail to deliver unless chased, at least weekly, for 4-5.

They had the biggest lists, and the best prices, but the hassle just wasn't worth it.

I've been buying quite a bit off them lately and have had no problems with delivery: yes, it does vary between 1 - 2 weeks, but always arrives in good condition; extremely well-packed, etc. I am based in Sydney, though; perhaps that makes a difference, although I don't see why it should.

I will say, it was a good idea for them to allow for pickup at Dans...even though it costs the same (and probably saves them money), I think the cost is fair and the convenience, for those that need it, is good....
