Sept Sydney Offline: Margaret River vs. Coonawarra

Post by Hacker »

About time we had an offline, so let's make one up. I always love Cab Savs and blends so let's have a ligthearted crack at comparing Margaret River and Coonawarra.
I was thinking of La Mint as they have delivered so well in the past. Date? What about Thursday 6th September.
I would love it if the wines could have somewhere near a decade of age on them, but that is not a condition of entry.
Numbers either 8 or 10. Who's up?

mjs, this is a clear and blatant copyright infringement of our offline! Sydney was clearly the original intellectual property owner of this concept, so unles you back off and issue a public apology forthwith it will be lawyers at ten paces! You have been warned. :D :D

I don't see why not. I was hoping to have flights of MR vs. Coon against each other hopefully blind. Starting with older. So for that to occur we will need to know in advance but on the night all blind. Not a hard and fast rule, we'll see how it progresses.

BTW, this not investment advice, but the asx stocks mentioned in my signature below are in the process of going off. Don't say you weren't warned.

Just to kick things along I will bring a 2007 Moss Wood. So hopefully it will be paired with a Coonawarra of similar age and pedigree and served blind. Oh and I will also bring something fun and challenging.

Looks like spot 10 is free - if so, I'm in
I appreciate all forms of alcohol, as long as its wine.

It's yours Brett!

Guys, have a think about what to bring so we can create relevent matches for the flights. So far we have a Moss Wood and a Woodlands, so some Coonawarra alternatives would be good.

Trying to line up some work travel so I can be in Sydney on the 6th.

If it works out I'll bring a pair of '08's, one Houghton Gladstones and the other Wynns Black Label.

I think the decade suggestion is a good one. Cab Savs more than virtually any wine I know go through a really dormant/dead phase often needing at least 10-15 years before waking up and showing their full glory. it is often a function of excessive/robust tannins in big vintages that literally take decades to settle down. Not a requirement but definitely a good suggestion.

Yes Thursday 6th Sept. I mentioned it in the first post. Btw if there are no objections I will order the main set order menu, that has worked well on the previous offlines.
Can other attendees nominate which wine they are planning to bring?
