Hi Craig, I picked up the 16 this morning at one of the chains. There was a dozen or so cases in the middle of the store ready to go for the early birds.
(I also got some more 13 and 15 for the same price as the 16.)
Tempted to open a bottle and post a tasting note. But I won’t and I will respect the “embargo” up to the Wynnsday release.
I am assuming Wynnsday might be this Wednesday?
Yes Sean, appears Dans have gone early with $27 pb or thereabouts...would be very interesting if you proffered the first tasting note...reckon your palate and assessment is pretty good.
Yes, first Wednesday in August is Wynnsday...it used to be a great day with oodles of black label, Michael and JR at lunches that went for hours...now just a marketing gimmick, largely unnoticed by the trade and only for a few diehards of the brand
Points mean absolutely nothing to me...I buy the wines regardless and on taste (thats why there is no 2011 BL in my cellar), however, Calliard and Halliday will no doubt have 2-3 of the new releases at 98+
TWE/Wynns don't do anything in Adelaide, and have not for a number of years, but I will have a really good look at the wines on August 17, when the Coonawarra Rd show comes to town.

I was under the impression Braida was the first to use barriques for Barbera instead of botti, which added the oak tannins to support the acid and changed the style of Barbera being produced up until then. Did Gaja/Vallana also use barriques for Barbera prior to Braida? Did they vinify Barbera with the direct intention of them being ageworthy?

Re any “embargo” I don’t see the point of upsetting anyone if they have one. I was thinking the wine probably shouldn’t have been on sale yet anyway.
I remember the Ozwine blog getting into trouble with Penfolds a few years ago and Andrew had to remove his review until the embargo date. Obviously someone was being pretty serious about it. Looking on the bright side, maybe Andrew was quietly pleased that he was being regarded as a “critic” warranting that kind of attention.
It is all about the critic scores and retail prices, isn’t it?
As far as that goes anyway, l am happy to share my very amateur opinion on the wines when/if I do a tasting or open a bottle.

Sean, I don't think anyone on here would think of you as being self-inflated!
I'd consider AG as being a journalist, although on the amateur end of the spectrum. He gets invited to a lot of industry tasting. I don't believe you do, although I heard your invitations get sent out, they just got lost in the post
