Anyone Having Problems With The New Halliday Web Site?

Post by Chuck »

Just tried the new version and an not happy. For example if you search for say "Penfolds Grange" there "no result". Finally got to a review of Ferngrove Malbec (had to search just Ferngrove first before selecting the Malbec from the list) but it only gives you notes on the current vintage whereas previously all vintages would be shown ?? Also the new section that allows you to include/exclude ratings, vintages, price etc to narrow down the search does not allow you to enter a particular wine vintage so the search is too broad and way too complicated.

Anyone else struggling with it or is it just me?

No, not just you chuck, I saw a number of people complaining about the broken search functionality elsewhere on the wine web. Seems it's gone from crap to still crap. Somehow I'm not surprised though.

Not a surprise..their phone app was terrible, this is terrible..Wine critics are useless when it comes to technology or even picking a company that can deal with technology...

The only redeeming feature of the new site is it looks pretty. But the old search facility was far better.

Tasted June 2018. This release is not one of Halliday's best efforts. The packaging looks attractive, but that's where the appeal ends. Pretty on the outside, but feels unresolved on the inside. The unpleasantly bitter finish is what disturbs most. Needs a lot of work. No apparent cork issues.

Avoid. 65 points.

The best part about the old site was the ability to start entering letters/words in the search bar and the list of matches started to appear and the list reduced as you inputed more letters/words. Now for example if type in Penfolds Grange it comes up with "No matches". You have to type in Penfolds Bin 95 Grange. Miss any letter/number and "No results". So if you don't know the exact name of the wine you'll spend a lot of time trying to find it. Really dumb. And he calls this progress?

Gold Ozzie..if only he could find a guy in tech who is as good as he is with cash for comment....then it would be the greatest site in the world
Have even stopped buying the book, after 16 copies on a shelf, word of mouth communities like this, snippets from TWF and other sites, have superseded it

2038 is when Unix time ends. There is a chance it will end up being like the Y2k bug. Still plenty of time for everyone to ignore it!

Yeah...and most of the younger wine critics seem fairly up to scratch when it comes to technology...the Old Guard though - No chance.

For reasons unknown I have just had my Halliday membership cancelled. No explanation despite having a month to go. I would have thought I would have received a reminder notice. Given the increase in subscription prices, balanced against the rubbish new site its time for me to bail out.

Is Halliday listening to us and other unhappy customers? I sent a message of complaint about the new site about 2-3 weeks ago with no response. May just let my subscription expire in a few months if there's no improvement. I wonder if his crew are listening to their membership and monitoring this site? Probably not.

Got a message on the site saying "we are listening" etc etc and the site's search engine is working much better.

I keep having issues on this site too. Perhaps it's a problem with my web browser. I've cleared the cash I've scanned for viruses, but every time I search for a wine I keep getting 5 or 6 points of overinflation of the wine scores.
