Interesting?
Hi Good Peoples,
HallidayÂ’s Top 100 is out this weekend and there have been no posts discussing it. In years gone by, there was much debate about the subject but as every year goes by, there seems to be less and less discussion about it.
This year, he raves about the 02 Red vintage and brings back the under $20 red category. Over 1250 wines were submitted from a list of 200 producers that were “invited†to submit their wines. As a condition of entry, the wines “have to be available for sale in December†so some wines that have not hit the streets were submitted.
If they must be “available†then I wonder how the 99 Grange got in. Does the secondary market count as available?
Any comments from those that have seen it or is no one interested?

Hi TORB,
How do you access his Top 100 upon release? I usually see it months later via spurious and nefarious means .
Best regards
Paul

Paul,
It's published within the Weekend Australian Newspaper. In years past it was also online on the Winepros site but hasn't appeared.
I'm not sure if it's online elsewhere else.

Paul,
I doubt it will be online this year, if you email me your postal address I will be happy to mail it to you. torbwine@bigpond.com
Hallidays Top 100 is available in The Weekends Australian Newspaper which is on sale at all Oz newsagents for $2.50. Its a broadsheet and not available online etc. So unless you are overseas, if you want it you can get it from your local newsagent.

hallidays top 100
Got to say that Halliday's top 100 is still very valid.
The phones been running hot on the 03 Reserve Durif.
(Though Torb did call it first)
As for Parker being the man, well he is but more so the wines available in the US.......James is the Australian Man!
Cheers

No, VC has sponsored it for a few years now, and does again this year. Note I'm not sure if VC sponsors the tasting, but they certainly sponsor the publication, as noted clearly on P1, and with ads on pages 2, 5, 9, 13 and the full pager on 16.

Yes, he notes this in the introduction. He sends invitations out for submissions to the top 100 tasting, and notes he limited the invitations this year due to space restrictions.

There's a bottle of 99 Grange in my local bottle shop in Carlingford. Not sure of the price, think it's around $450.
Don't follow Halliday in the Oz - I avoid Murdoch paper as much as I possibly can under all circumstances...
cheers,
Graeme
Re: Interesting
Halliday's Top100 article will be available in it's entirety online on the Winepros' website later today (Monday).

Well, it was embargoed for publication until the Weekend Australian had published the Top 100 article (Saturday), and i didn't get to put it up over the weekend 'cause i'm in the middle of moving house!
So, technically, it was published on the winepros website yesterday midday (Monday), so in reality, only a day and a half delay.

And oh yeah, to the next poster... There have been numerous articles posted since the 2002 Halliday's Top 100. I cannot be held responsible for the lack of articles posted prior to the site being taken over by our organisation eaqrlier this year.

Andrew,
Glad they you have finally got your negotiations with Halliday sorted out. FWIW, I am not "the next poster" but your company took over Winepros in March and up until very recently, no new content had been added. That was a period of about eight months when all the old articles were just recycled. Will you have more than just HallidayÂ’s Australian articles on your site? What about his updated TNÂ’s? Will all the recent ones go up?
