Jeremy Oliver: Good Wine Guide
Just spotted (6 months late) the change in name & release date. I've bought the guide each year (bar 2012 for no known reason). Is the new format as good as the previous guide?
Edited for typo.

I think this might be a new series, aimed more at new enthusiasts, with the old book carrying on as was.

Jeremy Iliver might be Oliver's evil twin, the drunken one with a medical problem.

His website indicates there's been a change in title. Any clarification appreciated.

He did lurk round here from time to time.
I can not remember what his handle was. I had a look and ran into a few old names, but not him. Others may have a better idea.
If someone can find it send him a PM.

You can catch up with Jeremy on twitter if you like.

Reading his unhappy tweets about Optus Live (in Dec) and doing the Census (in Aug) has a kind of irony given all the website problems he had - or his subscribers had??

Having just re-read the JO website problem thread and seeing Gary Walsh & Campbell Mattinson throwing us a freebie on that occasion was fantastic. If not already subscribed to their site, to quote Ian Molly Meldrum, do yourself a favour.

Re: Jeremy Oliver: Good Wine Guide
I think the release dates were getting later and later for the Annual; it had slipped from August to late October over the previous lustrum. Seems to me like it was all getting too late so they decided to throw together the Good Wine Guide as a stocking-filler money-spinner (late as it was!) and try to get the Annual back on track next year. Although I'm not sure of the wisdom of releasing a "2017 Annual" in the middle of the year. I always thought that marketing would dictate the old schedule; release the 'next year' guide early in Q3 of this year for fathers day/christmas. Still, what would I know?

Went looking for 2018 guide today. It’s the same format as last year, which I didn’t buy as unseen. The format is a dog’s dinner: I put it back on shelf & purchased Geddes’ Australian Wine Vintages instead.

Mark,
The last edition I have is the 2016. How does the 2017 and 2018 differ and what are the major flaws?

Must admit that I don't rate Geddes' palate at all after flicking through an annual of his. There again, our own palate is the best of all isn't it?

Indeed, though all too easy as a newb to defer to the good and the great, assuming our palates must 'suck'. It can take a long time to wean oneself off the crutch of scores.Mahmoud Ali wrote:Yes it is, yes it is, I quite agree.swirler wrote: ... our own palate is the best of all isn't it?

Re: Jeremy Oliver: Good Wine Guide
Used to enjoy JO's book far more hard hitting than JH...alas has become very pedestrian.
To be honest I derive a lot of my wine info from you lot
Cheers

I've got the 2016 edition and it is pretty much the same format as the 2001 edition. I am assuming something changed in 2017 but I'm not sure what.
