Lately, I've been frequently the one starting the new monthly purchases thread. I haven't purchased anything in October... yet.

Marks and Sparks had a a few clearance wines, presumably to make way for more xmas stock. I was reasonably restrained:
2 x Ferrari Brut Trento DOC (Fizz) for £10 a bottle, fairly genuinely half price and having had one a couple of months ago, well worth the restock
1 x Williams & Humbert dry sack 15yo solera especial sweet oloroso, again £10 (was £25)

Was tempted by Joseph Chromy NV (Pinot Noir fizz), again £10, and might return later this week as I doubt it will mean much to the regular punters. Any views on it? What I'd read says they pump out some decent stuff.

Finally out of the box.

24 x Capel Vale 2016 Cellar Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon. Classic medium bodied MR cheapie that over delivers.
12 x Kilikanoon 2016 Golden Hillside Clare Valley Riesling. Another everyday drinking wine.

George,
I see you got one of the Redman 2007 6L Imperials that Dan and the team had on special this week. Not a bad deal at $280. Sold out now! Hope you get to enjoy it at a suitable occasion!

I dont think redman gets the credit it deserves. Some very good reds that seem (i think) to fly under the radar. They have been around for years too! Dont know much about the 07 vintage in coonawarra, but looks like a party at George's house :D

Rossco, agree with you, although I will be the first to say that they fell off the pace in the late 80's and 90's and suffered badly from both cork and DMS issues imo (of course. they weren't Robinson Crusoe in the respect of corks). They now seem to be producing good gear since the mid 00's at least, cabernets in the last few years have been excellent and they just picked up a heap of silverware in Rutherglen FWIW. Redman was the first CD I went to in Coonawarra in 1973, and Bill Redman was a pioneer in the area through much of the 20th century, including the Woodley's Treasure Chest wines and then on to the (literal) Rouge Homme label.
