Considering chucking in my sub. Thing is I like their other wines - Moppa Springs/Rod and Spur - but this faux exclusivity is pissing me off.

You may not be far off... I was a mailing list member for something like 3.5yrs before I got to Stonewaller but it did eventually happen...

And if it helps, I'm now a Stone Waller and I first ordered three years ago. It was a neat surprise when we returned from holidays last week.

I was wondering, what are the Vine Vale and Cane Cut Semillon wines usually like? I've never had them and am keen to try them.

And does anyone know if I have a family member passing through whether they'd be allowed to enter the Stone Waller cellar door on my behalf or are they strict?

Vine Vale is a different type of riesling, less acid, rounder in the mouth. Smells gorgeous. Not for long keeping in my view.

Cane Cut semillon is a pretty standard offering. Nothing "different" about it that you wouldn't get from other producers. A bit exxy in my view.

Not sure re the relative. Always pays to ask.

Tried a couple of the new releases today
2017 Vine Vale Riesling - 2 months? oak and short time on skins. Nice and textural, like a german riesling.
2015 Growers Semilon - much better than the 2014. Fuller front palate and nice acidity on finish
2014 Basket Press Shiraz - soft body with a green streak on the finish
2015 Rifle Range Cabernet - leafy cabernet without the threat of DMS. Nice wine.
2017 Fronti - back on form with just picked fruit aromas and tingling acid cleansing finish

I was down at my cellar last week and bumped into a chap who happily confided that he has done multiple visits to the CD to pick up 4 dozen of the 2012...just wondering how he managed to do this??

I've told this story before so I'll be brief. I was on the Asia Pacific across Australia and took a break between trains in Adelaide and headed up to the Barossa. At the local backpacker/bike rental place I met a fellow from Melbourne who offered to take me around to some of the smaller, less well known wineries that I was not likely to have heard of in Canada. That was back in 1995 and, as a result, I was introduced to Bethany, Charles Melton, and Rockford. At Rockfoprd my new found friend asked me to buy him a case of Basket Press as he had already bought one the day before.

While tasting I did not have to pretend to like the Basket Press but my decision to take buy a case to take home to Canada was a stretch because I was on my way to Perth and thence to Hong Kong and China. Anyway, in the parking lot Michael from Melbourne paid me for the case.

So there you have it, teenagers outside liquor stores ask adults to buy them booze. Some of them grow up to become wine enthusiasts and ask strangers to buy them expensive limited allocation wines from cellar door.

Yes very much so, happened at Wendouree, used to happen at Greenock Creek, though I suspect the recent sale at $13M+ has eased that, but the Chinese buyer will want to keep the tills ringing, and I suspect it happens at the two weekends at Noon...fortunately have never had to line up as I am on their mailer.
Hell I've even done it at DMs when there are limits.
