Selected to accompany a pasta night. Looking forward to see if there was a synergy with the pasta sauce.
Unbelievable. My first ever wine under screwcap completely destroyed byTCA and Brett. Undrinkable.

This unbelievable
My mate with a temperature controlled cellar recently opened a 'mystery' wine
We sniggered as we could see the screwcap on the masked bottle and jokingly said Penfolds
But it was the worst TCA ever in vinous history
11 bottles to go
A corked sc 2006 Isole
Same as yours.....

Well that starts to raise the possibility of a corked barrel...
Reading CT certainly brings up some notes bemoaning a lack of fruit, plus acidity too strong, which could point to low level taint - along with many happier notes. Worth a read to get a feel for it.
FWIW 2006 was a very well-regarded vintage in the region, and I liked what I tasted of that vintages down in Montepulciano

FWIW I recently had a bottle of 2010 Cepparello under screwcap and there was no evidence of either of these faults. The wine was good but relatively primary and unevolved.

Madness putting Italian wines in screwcap without trial .Sigmamupi wrote: The wine was good but relatively primary and unevolved.
Better off buying expensive guaranteed taint free cork like Giacomo Conterno, until screwcap better understood.

Hi Jamie
FWIW Cepparello can often take a while to open up under cork, but does mature very well indeed.
I suspect our pre-conceived views on cork / screwcap put us at opposing positions on this one!
Regards
Ian

Ian I think I'm open minded on closures.
A wine that's tight and unyielding in youth is a scary proposition if without SC trial .

Doesn't sound that open-minded to me. As Ian said most likely a barrel fault as it is impossible to get TCA from a screw cap.
Re: TN: 2006 Isole e Olena Cepparello
I might add I'm not open minded -I really like screw caps

Re: TN: 2006 Isole e Olena Cepparello
One big question is how much is affected. If a TCA barrel goes into a tank to be bottled then the whole x litres is buggered. If a separate bottling for cork to that under sc then only 1 variant buggered.
Cellartracker reviews may be for cork variant = untainted wine.

Not arguing barrel faults or TCA . I wouldn't buy this wine without being assured of trials under screw cap. It could even be better under screw cap I don't know- but I want assurance and not walk up to that big screw cap cliff like a sheep. The 2010 comments spike concerns I have about Italians under SC. Seriously structured wines with SC having a primary fruit lag. Seeing it in Aussies, seeing it in Central Otago.Chris H wrote:Doesn't sound that open-minded to me. For the time being, happy with cork in Italy, especially with some producers like G Conterno guaranteeing no TCA. I'm getting TCA refunds too which eases the pain.

Actually I got to try a side by side comparison of screwcap vs cork at the winery. I would need to check my notes for the specifics but I recall they had been experimenting with screwcaps for some time and that the intention was the screwcap wines would be mostly for the Australian market.JamieBahrain wrote:Not arguing barrel faults or TCA . FWIW I preferred the screwcap version which was slightly fresher, however there was not a massive difference between the two.
