Malbec Day

Post by Cactus »

Anyone going to Sydney Melbourne events this weekend? Im going as I dont know Malbec very well and keen to internationalise the cellar. Ill post thoughts here following event. Any Malbec experts that have a view on what to look for? Fav producers? Does it age well?

Achaval Ferrer was quite good, had a few bottles while in Argentina where the standard bottling was about $15 in a restaurant. Have not tried the single vineyard wines as I don't see value there, however I hear that they are nice.

Unsure whether Carmelo Patti is imported into Australia, however this guy was a lovely small producer as well. Some of the upper end Norton and Luigi Bosca malbecs were enjoyable too - these guys are a bit like Wynns in that there are wines spanning the quality spectrum.

Carmelo is a legend. Such a nice guy and great wines too. I am pretty sure they aren't imported over here though unfortunately.

I think I saw that Bressia and Atamisque were showcasing some wine at the event. Both great bodegas but I personally prefer their blends to the straight Malbec.

If you do end up tasting the Bressia, would you mind finding out who is importing them? I wouldn't mind tracking some down depending on what they are selling for here.

Edit: Never mind, I found out who is importing. Not far off the the Argentinian prices either.
