Wednesday 5 April - The crazy spicy aromatic offline at Chinta Kechil

Post by rooman »

Ok, Picking up on the discussion in the BYO restaurant thread do we have enough people interested in an aromatic wine offline at Chinta Kechil, a Malaysian street hawker style restaurant. The food is spicy, as I discovered, so no point bringing subtle reds etc Also incredibly cheap but the atmosphere is great. http://chintakechil.com/

Whilst the restaurant is in Double Bay, it is only 200m from Edgecliff Station. Hacker your bus stops right opposite if you want to go for three?

Restaurant booked for 6.30pm on 5th.

Any interest? Ms Rooman has already indicated she will attend given she loves this restaurant so we are off with 2.

Possible Attendees:
1 - Mr Rooman
2 - Ms Roo
3 - Dave Vino
4 - Tigger
5 - Hacker (I reckon if we can book a restaurant in his street he should be ok)
6 - mse
7 - Odyssey
8 - Bobthebuilder

According to she-who-must-be-obeyed, the 5th is an auspicious day for an offline.

He who has no say is also fine with that date..

FYI, in Bahasa Malaysia, Cinta Kecil means "little love". Both words are typically spelt without a "h", but the Malay C is a hard "ch" sound. The owners may have stuck the "h" in there so us matsaleh (white folks) can pronounce it correctly.

I am available at this stage, the Thursday 6/4/17 before long weekend would be ideal unless any contingency occurs. Please count me in for now

Any new takers for next month that particularly like Riesling or Gewürztraminer?

On Gewürztraminer, does anyone have any NZ or Alsatian examples. I personally think the kiwi versions have much crisper acid than any I've tried in Aus.

I've got collected lots of Alsace that includes aged VT Gewurtz and some field blends that have Gewurtz in them.

I'm of the opinion that residual sugar is primary concern when it comes to spicy (chilli hot) foods. Aromatics are lovely but if theres too much chilli, Gewurtz (even VT) can get blown away by chilli heat, or be a bit fat for it. The dryer ones such as a lot of NZ, especially so.

For the spicier chilli-hot foods I tend to have a good Spatlese riesling (if I have any... I tend to drink them faster than I buy them...)

When do you leave for Noosa? The idea was to have it before school holidays given lots of us have kids.

I will be catching train at Town Hall around 6pm - 6:15pm, so if I am late by 10-15 minutes, please save a few sips of each wine for me thanks. :)

I reckon if you catch the train from town hall between 6 &6.15, you will be bang on time. 7 mins from TH to Edgecliff and 7 mins down hill.

I'm battling to get rid of a cold by tomorrow, complete loss of smell and taste. If it doesn't clear up and return by tomorrow night I'll need to withdraw, and will be extremely disappointed as aromatics are a favourite theme.

If another wishes to take the spot or you need to make the call that I'm out, I fully understand.

Otherwise I was going to cling on to the hope that smell and taste return by tomorrow afternoon.

Very sorry for the complication!

Any tips for nearby parking? Prefer parking station type setup, not endless loops hoping someone moves from a spot.

There's two hours free parking at Woolies/DM if you buy something. The DM is huge so any thing you need should be there. It has a massive whiskey selection if you like spirits.

Mark I'm really sorry but I think I need to pull out of this.
The missus has been really sick yesterday and today and the youngest seems to be coming down with it too this arvo.
Please let someone else take my spot if they want
If miracles occur overnight and no one ends up taking the spot then I will definitely come along
