Brisbane Offline - Friday 31 March
Date: Friday 31 March
Time: TBA (probably 7.00pm)
Venue: TBA (probably 85 Miskin St)
Theme: TBA (depends on suggestions from participants)
Ran into Rens at the Brisbane Roar last week. We thought we should get an offline going for the year. So here is the date claimer. Get on board! We will limit numbers to 12 then have a reserves list and reassess closer to the day.
Suggestions for a theme are welcome!

Re: Brisbane Offline - Friday 31 March
Already looking forward to this.
7pm is a good time for us
85 Miskin is always great, but happy to explore new territory or a few old ones. Had a look at Deer Duck, but could not find the BYO option anymore-could be worth a call.
I assume the theme stands for Tempranillo, Barolo or Alsace. Will look in the cellar for something that fits

I really like it Gerry. I assume Cabernet predominant wines, so a Bordeaux Blend is OK.
Oh, and i've got a lot of good'uns from far and wide to fit the theme.

I'm in. Probably just me at this stage but will advise.
Cabernet theme sounds good and more than happy with 85 Miskin St.

If you had to choose between drinking great wine or winning Lotto, which would you choose - Red or White?

Hi Michael, can you add a +1 for me also please.
I'm good with a Cabernet theme.
Could I put forward Chardonnay as a secondary theme for whites to start with? One or two small flights before getting into the Cabs. I'm drinking a bit more Chardonnay lately, be keen to try a small cross section if anyone else is interested.

Re: Brisbane Offline - Friday 31 March
Just giving this a bump to see if any other Brisbane folks are interested. Some new faces would be nice. We don't bite (well Ian might if the subject of golf comes up).
On the wine side of things. I have several options in Cabernet, more if blends are allowed. I am thinking one of these:
2005 Burge Family Cabernet Sauvignon The Homestead
2000 Cape d'Estaing Cabernet Sauvignon Kangaroo Island
2009 Helm Cabernet Sauvignon Premium Canberra
2009 Noon Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Langhorne Creek
2007 or 2009 Warrabilla Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Rutherglen
2001 Wirra Wirra Cabernet Sauvignon The Angelus McLaren Vale
Looking at that lot we could modify the theme to "Non-Coonawarra Cabernet"?
Cheers

Re: Brisbane Offline - Friday 31 March
I vote for blends acceptable also. I'd be ok with right bank blends too though as a bolter.
Should we try the reds blind? Or whites also?

Michael,
The 05 BFW Homestead is a cracking wine. The 09 Noon is massive and have no idea on the rest.
I'll bring a Dahlwhinnie Cabernet and a Paringa Estate Chardonnay.
Cheers
Ian
If you had to choose between drinking great wine or winning Lotto, which would you choose - Red or White?

I think we will bring:
Wynns Cabernet Black Label vintage ??
Grossett Gaia 99 or other Clare Valley Blend
Sparking Shiraz or bottle of bubbles
Looking forward to a great night its been a while. cheers
Re: Brisbane Offline - Friday 31 March
Ok. Our contenders are all not at their peak but I reserve the right to revisit this theme in 5-10 years. So please put us down for:
1998 Chateau Musar (Cab blend)
2011 Kumeu River Coddingtons (Chard)

2011 Kumeu River Coddingtons (Chard)

Haha. Single blind then...? Looks like some interesting wine coming. Keen to try the Ch Musar.
I've realised I've not a lot of aged Cabernet left. Hopefully coming close to a drinking window:
- 2007 Cape Mentelle Cabernet Sauvignon
- 2010 Hillcrest Premium Chardonnay
We will bring another red or white depending on line-up, or then again maybe one of each:
- 2007 Juniper Estate Cabernet Sauvignon or 2007 Te Mata Awatea
- Perhaps another Yarra Chardonnay (2013 Oakridge 864 Funder & Diamond, or 2010 Hoddles 1Er) or maybe a MR wine (Pierro). Any preferences?

you would get my vote on the 2010 Hoddles 1Er, heard great things but never tried it. Their regular release can be fantastic and represents exceptional value, so would have to expect another level with the 1Er. cheers Gerry

I had the 2015 Hoddle's 1er at the Cru Bar a couple of months back and it was exceptional. Exceptional enough to grab a few bottles anyway.
Cheers
