2012 Riesling Suggestions

Post by timnit »

Hey Guys

I missed the boat on 2012 Rieslings out of SA and Clare Valley in particular..Was spending all disposable cash on a wedding!!

Can get some now and am looking to get some age on them, I have had a couple of 10 year+ rieslings lately and have been astonished at the smooth, buttery, honey tasting liquid gold that a fresh zesty riesling can become!!!

Any suggestions out of this lot?.. How would you rank them?;
- 2012 Tim Adams Riesling
- 2012 Leo Buring Clare Valley Riesling
- 2012 Petaluma Hanlin Hill Riesling
- 2012 Orlando St Helga Riesling
- 2012 Annies Lane Riesling
- 2012 Mitchell Watervale Riesling
- 2012 Richmond Grove Watervale Riesling

Happy New Year Everyone!!!!

My suggestions would be 2,3, and 7

Then see if you can track down Seppelt Drumborg, and Leo Buring Leonay.
Smack my [insert grape type here] up !

2 and 3 are the pick of that bunch, though the Tim Adams is also quite good. I like the Mitchell as well.

No votes at all for the Orlando or Annie's Lane so far and I think that should tell you something.

This would be my order of preference:

- 2012 Tim Adams Riesling
- 2012 Mitchell Watervale Riesling
- 2012 Petaluma Hanlin Hill Riesling
- 2012 Leo Buring Clare Valley Riesling

I'd also consider Pikes Traditionale or Pikes Merle. Even Pauletts?

There are lots of others you could consider but I was taking it that you specifically had access to, and wanted views on, only the ones listed?

Otherwise yeah Pikes definitely, maybe O'Leary Walker. Jim Barry Watervale is good. Pewsey Vale at Eden very good and great value...

Word is that 2016 in the Clare has been an amazing vintage. Maybe stock up on them as well if Riesling is your thing.

Cheers

If you had to choose between drinking great wine or winning Lotto, which would you choose - Red or White?

They would be my pick too, but funnily enough my preference is from the bottom up
But the order you have them in is from what I would cellar shortest to longest
And I'd add the Leonay to the list too

The Petaluma and Leo Buring are to my mind the top two picks. As for the Annie's Lane, this is their entry level wine, much better would their Quelteller Watervale Riesling which I expect would be good based on the quality I found in their Copper Trail Shiraz.

In any case, I would be happy drinking any of these wines with 10 or more years of age.

Mahmoud.
