Basedow 1996 Shiraz

Post by gheiland »

Hi All,

have everyone tasted the 1996 Basedow Shiraz last month's ?

Here my tasting notes:

The color shows a clear, not too dark red with a little brick red on the edge,
the nose is with red berry, black pepper, a little wood in the background,
the wines shows a middle structure, with fine ripe tannin, red berry and a middle peppery finish. This wine is no powerbomb, but is very very nice to drink now. My rating is 90 points.

In my mind this is a very good traditional shiraz with the optimal ripeness at this time, but is good for another 2-3 years.

Hi Gregor,

I had one of these a few months ago with pretty much the same observations as you except I found it quite dry.
Cheers

I opened a magnum of this at a dinner a few months ago and we didnt drink ti on the night - looked like it would go to waste. but we kept it and sipped it over te next few nights. All I had written down as a tasting note was leather, earth and sweet plummy fruit. I remember that it held surprisingly well over the next few nights.

cheers

Andrew
