In an online auction, I placed a few insultingly small bids, as is my style, to see if I got anything. I'm wondering whether anybody else bid on anything at all, because I finished with 59 lots. Any comments on the wines (quality and drinking window, in particular)are welcome, since they're nearly all single bottles so I won't get a second chance at them...well, not at these prices.

The total? Under $450, for 69 bottles. (listed in price order, highest to lowest). Only the first ten had the lot price over $10, including commission. Since it was a silent auction, I'm curious how much less I could have escaped with.

Auction spending spree
Can I ask which online auction it was ?

Comparing to RRP, some of them were a lot better than that.
Artemis Grand Crux Shiraz - $4.66 (CD $45)
Burke and Hills Pinot - $4.66 ($32 in Halliday)
Brown Bros Liqueur Muscat - $4.66 ($30 in Halliday)
Millbrook Cab Merlot - $4.66 ($32 in Halliday)
MillsReef Elspeth Shiraz - $4.66 (about $50 I think)
Stella Bella Chardonnay - $2.33 ($25 in Halliday)
Wold Blass Grey Labels for $9.32 were pretty sweet too.

Fantastic! Really well done!
You used to be able to do that with genuinely first rate Sauternes ten years ago, but, alas, the summer of opportunity soon passes into winter.......so grab them while you can.
I've got a cellar full of odds and sods that are growing more curious by the day.
Cheers,
John
BTW, did anyone see what the Chateau Tirecul went for at the online held by "the other lot" (come to think the it, great name for an auction house; the domain name is free so let's see if a trout takes the fly...you never know

I've found the L-M internet system somewhat Byzantine, I have to say. Over the years I've picked up some very happy bargains there (a case of Rosemount 98 Show Res Shiraz for $11 pb), but I'm wary of going 'long' on too many lots on-line for the very reason you've illustrated.
Perhaps there are just tricks to navigatin their site I've not stumbled on yet...
cheers,
Graeme
