Best buy I've made in years those Universals. Great deal Gavin does on those as well. Ended up with 4 Universals and 4 Bordeaux's a while back now.

As for wine,

6 x 2014 Mt Pleasant OP & OH

Cheers

Where did you get the OP & OH from? Cellar door?

Correct, online cellar door. Delivery in November apparently. Am a member so got an email and decided to take the plunge after reading some excellent reviews across the board. I used to buy this or the Rosehill many years ago along with the Maurice O'Shea, but drifted away from the style so I stopped. But the price on the O'Shea is getting ridiculous nowadays. It used to be sub $50 and the OP & OH and Rosehill used to be sub $30.

Cheers

I still have a six pack of the 2000 O'Shea which someone at the time voted wine of the year. As I recall it cost around $35-40. It took years to hit its stride but now its in its window its a superb wine.

Domaine Paul Jaboulet Aine Crozes-Hermitage Domaine de Thalabert.

I bought a case of the 2011,2012,2013 and a six-pack of 2006 magnums.

I had a delightful albeit "modernist" 2010 the other day and loved it. It's the bargain of the wine world up here in HKG. 50 year old vines and some solid vintages of late.

A slightly oddball selection bought from a quirky local merchant - the bottles jokingly referred to as the 'long and the tall and the short'.

2 halves of Gosset Grande Reserve Champers
2 bargain bucket Ste Eugenie Corbieres, advised these were over-bought & sold back to the shop and may not have been cellared well - but both 2010 and 2007 were sound and well worth the £5 each
2013 Cuilleron Cornas Le Village
2011 Allegrini La Grola
2014 Morillon Blanc, trying another botrytis affected chardonnay, something I'm not aghast about (others seem to take offence at this concept)
Magnum of Ch Lamartine Cahors (standard bottling - a fine cellar builder)
2003 Pinon Vouvray Moelleux which I've had before
2011 JJ Christoffel Erben Erdener Treppchen Kabinett

to follow picking some up from them in August, including a 2010 MSV Benno Shiraz Mataro, a 1985 Pollet Vouvray Demi Sec, some Bojo a couple of spanish whites, a Gewurz and an old Harvey's Bristol Cream.

Am eyeing up some Italian wines, plus will pick up some Portuguese when we visit

I haven't bought many Australian wines for quite some time but recently a few examples of Australian wines, some classics, came my way and not one to turn down a bargain I pounced on what was available:

3 x 2012 Yalumba Eden Valley Viognier,
14 x 2010 Tahbilk Marsanne,
2 x 2006 Paracombe 'The Rueben', and
3 x 2005 Bethany Grenache

All were for the amazing price of $10 a bottle. I thought life couldn't get any better until, out of the blue:

1 x 2006 Penfold's 'St Henri' Shiraz for an astounding $35!!!!!

In order to appease the wine gods and put some balance in the universe I forked out another $10 for a 2004 Olivia Shiraz, a McLaren Vale wine apparently made by Gavin Hogg. The other wines I know about but the Olivia (named after Olivia Newton John) I do not. Was it a waste of money?

Mahmoud.

PS: The Canadian and Australian dollars are virtually on par.

Incredible, the price increase, particularly in the last 2-3 years. I bought my 2000's for $32 something ! The 2000 Rosehill is drinking well, too. I wonder if a $200 bottle of current release Maurice O'Shea is actually worth it ?

Yes, I found a single bottle of 2009 Maurice O'Shea lying around unnoticed in my local retailer for $75 earlier this year, couldn't buy it fast enough!!

Even 2 years ago the price was reasonable, but pretty much unaffordable now. Can it really be that good?

Bought a couple of 1997 Pewsey Vale individual vineyard Rieslings (the non Contours one) based on what was supposed to be a great Eden/Clare Valley vintage.

Any experience on this wine? It's cork sealed and levels were good and colour appears good through the bottle..

Not had the 1997 PV wines except at release.... Put me down as one of many who was sucked in by the 1997 riesling hype. I really hope your experience is netter than mine!

I picked up a few of the Orlando Steingarten Rieslings from 1997. I recall one of these being spectacular and one was corked. I also had a case of the Grosset Polish Hill 1997. Again one in three was spectacular, one in three was average and one in three terrible. It got to the point I had to put three bottles in the fridge each time to cover the risk.

Does that mean your experience with the PV at release was not very good?
