New WET into force yesterday

Post by Geoff »

The new version of WET went live yesterday. See here on the ATO site for the two page blurb. Is the expectation prices will drop, not change, or increase as a result? My quick reading suggests to me that there is a tax advantage for small producers which they may or may not then pass on to the consumer, depending on their current financial position. Personally I'd be happy to see small producers remaining viable, so maintaining current prices.

new tax structure

I understand Greenock Creek delayed the arrival of their new wines this year... I think they were possibly waiting for the new tax structure.
However, the Greenock Creek wines generally increased in price across the range... so obviously there was no saving to the consumer.
Also, I think their cellar door failed to cope with the numbers of arrivals yesterday... we may have made it just before the rush of consumers and it looked like some people may have needed to wait 30min + to get into CD.
