Xanadu Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

Post by Waiters Friend »

G'day

This Margaret River cabernet is apparently matured for 14 months in French Oak (40% new) after extended maceration. 14% alcohol.

Deep purple in colour and quite opaque. The nose has heaps of fruit - blackcurrant, mulberry, and ripe plums (is there some Merlot in here?). There's also some good supporting cedary oak. It's a big mouthfilling wine, with floods of fruit across the palate, supporting acid, chewy firm tannins and a long finish.

I reckon this will comfortably go another 5 years, and I will wait another 2 before trying the next one.

Cheers
Allan

The 2011 Xanadu Stevens Road Cab Sav was the one that got 99 Halliday points.

I wanted some too, but after the rating was released it sold out immediately! I bought some 2012 which he only rated at 97 (the 2012 Reserve Cab Sauv being rated 98).

But the 2010 Xanadu CS is a very very good cabernet, particularly for the price.

I picked up 3 of the 2011 Stevens Rd Cab. Haven't tried one yet and probably won't for a few years yet.

A good high end MR Cabernet will easily go 20+ years. Xanadu is not in the highest echelons ( try Moss wood, Woodlands, Cullen) of MR but nevertheless the 2010 should last.
