Ozzie, you're nothing if not eclectic, but just one bottle of each??. Love your choices

Yep, only one of each. I prefer diversity in my cellar. I rarely buy more than 3 bottles of the same wine these days. As those who've been following my purchases would know, I've slashed my Aussie wine purchases and now focusing on Italian, Spanish and French wines.

I've been seeing it pop up on Langtons alot and but is it worth the asking/reserve price of around $200 ex bp?? I really like the Ornellaia's i've had so far (04, 05) but just wondering if anyone's had/tried the 11 and whether or not it is worth the $$?

I bought a bottle of the Ornellaia 2011 from auction back in February. I paid $182 + buyers premium. Looking at the prices on wine-searcher, the price I paid here in Australia is lower than overseas so I think it's worth the asking price. I won't be opening my bottle for at least another 5 years. The ratings on CT are very high and there's a lot of reviews so I'm confident it'll be a great bottle, cork gods permitting.

Back on topic - 8 x Charles Heidsieck NV

No experience with the 2011 Ornellaia but from a local viewpoint both Hunter and Margaret River regions worth looking at. A few I can personally vouch for are:

2011 McWilliam's Mount Pleasant Wines Shiraz Mountain 'A' is a cracking wine
2011 Lakes Folly Cabernet isn't too bad either from the Hunter
2011 Woodlands Cabernet Sauvignon Alex Reserve will go the distance and will be spectacular in 20 years
Cheers

Cabernet is ... and will always be ... KING!

Deejay
i haven't had that Ornellaia and it really is too pricey for us these days, but I have yet to have a wine any worse than very good indeed from that label. Always very polished, with good complexity, even if a little too polished for some. It used to be a semi guilty pleasure.

4 more bottles bought this week, and no more room for any more. 2007 Quintarelli valpolicella, 2010 Torraccia del Piantavigna Gattinara, Hauner Hiera from Sicily and 2011 Emedio Pepe Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, all for ~ €110, about 90 gbp or 180 aud.

Meanwhile the Moser moscato giallo is superb. 12% alc and mostly dry, but without the phenolic harshness of other wines I have had from this grape. Brilliant aperitivo wine, or just one that is too easy to drink on a hot day, with or without seafood.

Vanya is pretty extraordinary (though ridiculously expensive).

Hmmm. Yet you still bought some!

Expensive by Australian standards, yes. But compared to the prices they're asking for top-notch Bordeaux first growths, one could say it's excellent value.

As long as it is as good......

Maybe he gets them made by one of the big wineries?

Bit of a change in tastes from your big Barossa wines IIRC?

Not sure where this reputation comes from. I reckon there are only about 40-50 Barossa shiraz in the cellar and 10-15 times this in cabs and blends from cooler climates - Coonawarra, Adelaide Hills and Margaret River. Cabernet is indeed KING in this household.

What's IIRC?

Hi Simon, where did you get the Serrat wines from, and how much were they? They are not available at the Serrat website yet.
Thanks Jim

Hi Jim, the Serrat is direct (and, rarely for me, at full retail!). I've bought every vintage since the 08, and love the wines. The Fourre tout sounds interesting...
