3 Leirana Finca Genoveva Albariño 2014 - "A dry Mosel meets Puligny with granite electricity"
3 Mengoba Godello Sobre Lías, Spain 2014 - "This is a serious white, among the best produced in Bierzo, quite complex and at the same time subtle, with hints of fennel and aniseed, something earthy/mineral, spices and nicely integrated oak"

New issue of the Wine Advocate came out at the end of the month and I really rate Luis - those are his quotes. The Godello was actually a mistake -. Mengoba also make an amphora Godello, which is quite Jura like and that was the one I thought I was buying. Oh well.

A 2012 terre di San Leonardo last night, it being a 2nd wine of San Leonardo. I hope the grand wine is much better than this, which had worryingly volatile acidity
Today bought a half bottle of Foradori teroldego, in advance of a visit to the winery this thursday. Will buy some trentino vini santi whilst here, and then leave space in the bags for whatever appeals in Bologna next week.
Nothing else purchased last month, as I was maxed out on my storage space, and that is the only way I keep my buying in check!

After a trip to Margaret River we found many to be priced out of our budget and not great QPR but we did find a guy (goes by the name Gordo) selling wines of good quality and keenly priced. First tasted at the place we stayed at and later at the local Farmers Market on the Saturday. Normally he sells his grapes to others but in 2011 and 2012 he had some wines made.

By Gordo 2011 The Purist Margaret River Cabernet Merlot. Quintessential MR cab merlot blend that was not far behind the Voyager cab merlot we enjoyed at the winery restaurant. Ready to drink

By Gordo 2012 The Prospector Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon. A really lovely drop that needs a few more years in the cellar. He's got a web site and ships free to all states. Great service too. Labels are hysterical showing he doesn't take it all too seriously.

Apart from these just a few quaffers including a case of Capel Vale cabernet and a McLaren Vale shiraz.

I'm in love with MR. There's something in them that gets my juices flowing.

Jamie, I think they are, had the opportunity of tasting 2013, 2014 and 2015 (barrel sample). I liked them all, solid fruit characters and really nice mouth feel but not overblown ( hopeless descriptors I know), but think you get what I mean. Others here have said that the 13's are better, but I think both are pretty good. Will have to open one of each to see perhaps.
I managed to get these in the lowish $20s and they are about $26 or so at CD. I am trying to stock up on 'relative' cheapies, well for me anyway, that will drink well with a bit of age on them.

Cheers

Maybe he gets them made by one of the big wineries?

Bit of a change in tastes from your big Barossa wines IIRC?

6 x 2013 Moss Wood Cabernet Sauvignon
12 x 2014 Cullen Diana Madeline
2 x 2012 Cullen Vanya Cabernet Sauvignon

Cullen had their 2014 release dinner the other day - the Diana this year is superb (99 points from Windsor Dobbin) and the Vanya is pretty extraordinary (though ridiculously expensive).

Expensive by Australian standards, yes. But compared to the prices they're asking for top-notch Bordeaux first growths, one could say it's excellent value.

Nice work ! I'm still on the fence when it comes to the 2002 Krug. The asking price is equivalent to 3 x 2008 Pierre Peters Chetillons, so it's a tough sell for me.

2013 Foradori Teroldego and Granato, plus a 2010 Nosiola from the same producer. The 2004 vino santo has already been consumed and was very good indeed.

As for Krug, it is crazy expensive, but can often be very special. The brains of the operation isn't too keen on champagne, but makes an exception for Krug. Damn her excellent palate!

I tried the 13 and 14 Bowen Shiraz Back to back with 6 other tasters. All agreed the 2013 was simply stunning.

The 2014 though.... Straight up.... wasnt as good as the 2013. Out of the bottle its ok, has some real jucieness and earth, but really lacks the power and intensity of the 2013. One of the tasters was the most disappointed as he LOVED the 2013 and bought a dozen of it, but didn't love the 2014.

Maybe suffering from new bottle syndrome and just needs time to fill out?
Not sure, but didnt hold a candle to the 2013.

Again, this was ONLY the Shiraz. We didnt try the Cab.

Another vino santo from a different member of the Poli family, plus a Moser moscato giallo, plus some herb infused grappa liqueur. Turned down Felsina Rancia 2007 @ 33 euro, which is tough as that is an excellent price, but it is a wine I can easily get back in UK

Just wondering if it was worth buying. I did enjoy the 2013.

A bit off topic, but I"m trying to buy some anniversary wines (2011)... not a great year but does anyone have any experience (i've looked on CT) with the Ornellaia 2011? I've been seeing it pop up on Langtons alot and but is it worth the asking/reserve price of around $200 ex bp?? I really like the Ornellaia's i've had so far (04, 05) but just wondering if anyone's had/tried the 11 and whether or not it is worth the $$?
