Leicester City win the EPL

Post by Michael R »

I know this isn't even close to a wine related thread...but seriously, how incredible is it??!!
Delighted for the fans, can only imagine the celebrations at the moment, city must be in total meltdown.

Hopefully they can keep the squad together for the champs league next season, although the vultures will be circling for Mahrez, Kante etc.

Obviously as a Liverpool fan, I'm disappointed that we've had a terrible season (more to come though with EL), but I couldn't be happier that Leicester has won it. I felt really dirty this morning cheering for Chelsea (and I hope to God it never happens again  ), but I really think everyone bar Spurs supporters would have done the same. Claudio Ranieri and his team have been a breath of fresh air that English football needed.

This season has proved the old saying correct - A Champion team will always beat a team of Champions!!

Well done Leicester, you earned it!

Cheers
Ian

P.S. Watch out for the mighty Reds next season!!
If you had to choose between drinking great wine or winning Lotto, which would you choose - Red or White?

I caught a brief mention of a story about a guy who had a thousand pounds(dollars?) on them at 5000:1.... Once they got to the final the bookies freaked out and offered him a 2 Million payout before the game but he refused and held out for the decider, now 5 Mill coming his way!

Great story if it's true!

Have heard a lot of similar stories Tim, but for much smaller stakes (and most cashed out).

Amazing that someone could stake that much at those odds, and then not cash out....really hope it is true. Hollywood will surely have to reference it in the movie they're making on this.

And former Fox Gary Lineker said he'd present the first show if MotD in his undies next season if they won...

But it's great to see (albeit I'm another disappointed Liverpool fan). Apparently it's been several decades since another team has won the top division for the first time.

I was listening to the 5AA sports show and Rowey said there was more chance of Elvis reappearing.

So nice to see a team outside of the cashed up big teams sneak in and pinch it, has been I don't know how long since Blackburn won it....at least 25 years I think, since then have all been won by the same four teams. Unfortunately can't see a repeat for another 25.

And say this as an Arsenal fan that will again most likely have to settle for another top 4 finish, playing in Europe seems to be Wenger's game plan.

What a season!

I got up this morning at 4:50AM to watch the game. Almost threw the towel in at 0-2, but though "I'll just watch this corner". And Cahill scored. And what a way to secure the title for Leicester... with a curler into the top corner on the run. Hazarrrrrrrd! Hilarious to hear the Chelsea crowd chanting "Leicester! Leicester!" in the closing minutes. Also hilarious to hear the Leicester fans at their home club chanting "We are staying up!". Classic Pommy humor.

The strange thing is that it ought to be considered a disappointing season for Liverpool, barring the UEFA cup exploits. However the fans are convinced that momentum is building, potentially into something special.
