Sydney Popup Jura Focused Offline - Wed 27th April
Re: Sydney Popup Jura Focused Offline - Wed 27th April
I'm going to drop my wines off at lunch @ Rocket and ask them to cool my whites.
Also I've decided on a Carmenere from the Colchagua Valley (Chile). I'll get them to decant it from lunch onwards. I'm pretty sure it will need it.
Looking forward to tonight!

Still trying to get up off the Flor.
Re: Sydney Popup Jura Focused Offline - Wed 27th April
I was waiting for someone to post the list but my quick impressions..
Great night...as always...I was surprised, maybe even slightly disappointed that all of the people new to Jura wines seemed to enjoy them ...A lot of them were relatively safe and I really do think Ganevat is a great gateway Jura wine (and a great wine overall). We had a good mix of ouille and sous voile (Topped up and oxidative)...a pretty sharp Vin Jaune...an oxidative new world Savagnin..and a few regional stars to finish off the night..
What I'm really interested in is what David, Lauren and Andrew will think of more normal wines now...Tracking their style preferences over the next year or so would be really interesting...

Yup I too was waiting on the list, because I can't remember most of the names off the top of my head and didn't take photos.
Overall, I enjoyed most, if not all of the wines we had, even the Premox'd one I didn't think was too bad because of the acidity.
I'm loving the acidity with all the wines, and made me really hungry. And Kevin, you are right, The Ganevat white we had was a great intro to Jura, not too strong yet still has all characteristics of Jura.
My fave wine was prob the first of Greg's wines (i forgot the name hence was waiting on the list).
Both Lauren and I were both really happy and thought it was really cool to try Ben's wines! You gotta be stoked when your wines get compared to Wendouree?!
I've gotta get Lauren to try some really good Xeres as well now that she's dipped her toes into the world of Flor and oxidative styles.
But as Kevin said, the night has definitely changed our perspective of wines (in particular whites). The high complexity and acidity of all of these I can't compare to anything else I've had or have in my cellar, so I'll have to be buying up. Greg, i'll be in touch
Oh also the Comtes cheese went sooooo well, and was surprising very filling, and I struggled to finish my main after this!
The regional star wines showed well, except the Carmenere prob would have gone much better with the main instead of having it towards the end. Wynns BL and Collector were both yum.
Lauren said it was her favorite offline, and it certainly was up there for me. Def was the most interesting offline for me (in a good way). Thanks again Tum for organising!!

Nice! How was it showing?
Re: Sydney Popup Jura Focused Offline - Wed 27th April
Looks like an awesome lineup. The Les Dolomies do have the most amazing acidity, if you are buying some then you may have a battle on your hands!
I would like to have heard Ben's response to this

Very enjoyable tasting, thanks for organising Tim.
David, really glad you and Lauren enjoyed the wines and are (?)converted!
Like Kevin, I was surprised how much attendees new to Jura wines enjoyed them. I think a lot of that is about context. If you're new and open to a wine style, and the people you're tasting with are enjoying the wines and commenting on their attractive attributes, then it's easier to enjoy them.
He he, well Wendouree wines have never done much for me, but I definitely took it as a compliment .
I was surprised, and wondered about the cork (not seepage, just maybe higher permeability).

Re: Sydney Popup Jura Focused Offline - Wed 27th April
Lot easier to get Jura here than it is to get Wendouree. Love the whites and still remember the first Ganevat Chardonnay I drank. Thread made me pull out a bottle last night, but a red this time. Ganevat has a negotiant business, which apprantly he runs with his sister, and that mix and matches all sorts of stuff. This wine was the 14 Poulprix, a Vin De France wine with 11.5% alcohol and mimimum sulphar. The blend is a mixture of red grapes from Savoie (Mondeuse), Rhone (Syrah) and Jura (Trousseau) and at the moment its very pure with the Mondeuse dominating. Pomegranite and cranberry fruit, with a touch of animal. Crunchy, light and very drinkable. Will be interesting to see exactly how it ages.
This is my church, this is where I heal my hurts.
