Is 6.30 too early or would people prefer 7? Quick show of hands and I will let the restaurant know.

Given the late notice, dave vino and I have done a deal. I will be bringing the '64 Gattinara he posted a photo of on the first page. We actually started to orchestrate this at the Jura offline last week when I was 6th reserve, however I thought I had no hope of making it. My oldest Barolo in the cellar (that I had no chance of getting to tonight) was a 2006 so this sure beats that for age! Thanks Dave.

Looking forward to it, 6:30 good by me too.

6.30 has been confirmed with the Larder. I also can't remember if I just discussed it with Dave and David or everyone but the dress standard for the evening is medieval Italian.

Brilliant

I like the purse for the Ah-So opener and the traditional 2-Zalto "chapeau" carry case.

The colours are all wrong for the Piemontese by the way who wear black and white stripes (at least in home games).

Cheers

Nebbiolicious Night!!! Lots of fun, food was pretty good (although timing was off - all or nothing!)

Highlights for me were the 64 mascarello, 88 produttori, 96 giacosa and 69 Gaja. Not sure in what order but all had something authentic to offer. Both 04's had plenty of youthful interest too, as did the 08 prunotto. Great contributions all round, high end crew to chat and learn from and lots of stylistic concepts to contemplate. We also had one sadly corked wine in the 82 conterno much to bobs disgust.

Bouncers at the nearby pub must have overheard Micks conversations beforehand as he was refused entry for a post tannin cleanser, it's a testosterone thing. Love your work mate, quite inspiring actually.

Thanks for organizing Mark, and thanks to all those who 'played mother' on the night.

Juventus are the Man Utd equivalent. Popular across Italy and abroad, but the Torinese prefer to support Torino, as the Mancunians prefer Man City.

It's not uncommon to stumble across a celebration in Italy where they dress up in historic costumes. Whilst the costumes are mildly interesting, the accompanying flag throwing processions are a joy to watch.

Sounds like a great night.

Classic Tim! you'd make a terrific tabloid journo
In defence of the bouncer (and myself) it had just turned 11pm and the pub was starting to close up. We also popped around to quickly check the Tilbury but same story.

Great night though and many thanks to Mark for organising. An outdoor table in this weather is very hard to beat. The Mascarello was my WOTN by a distance.
Nice to meet some new faces too.

Till the next!

Wonderful evening and many thanks to everyone for their amazing generosity with the wines shared at the table.

A quick snapshot of all the wines lined up at the end of the evening.

Hacker was wearing a similar ensemble to the MBSC dinner.

We didn’t tell him there was a dress standard. Its just how he rolls.

Those old B Mascarello's can be something !

Produttori often punches a bargain with a release price of $25 Aussie, a bit more for riservas, though expectations can be ridiculously high. Old Borgogno, without seeing the notes, you tend to get a good one ,1 in 3, so hoping someones delivered on the night.

Is that a Sandrone Valmaggiore 2007 ? How is it traveling? I have 3 bottles in my Australian cellar with a long winter's holiday coming up.

Looking forward to the notes.

You're right, they are mine - had sort of written them off. In my haste to ensure I got the ferry home forgot about the glasses. Thanks for looking after them. Will pm to work out getting them back.

Good night - couple of superlative nebs. Will write up as well.

Cheers

What is it about offlines - there are always a dizzying array of items left behind, but surprised no glasses cases forgotten - along with tasting notes they are definitely the most common objects left behind over here.

Hey Nick, thanks. It is mine, but not desperate for it. Maybe return it at another offline?

I have never focused on Barolo much before, this tasting really opened my eyes to the quality of these wines, and how approachable they can be with around 10 years bottle age. I had the impression they needed at least 20 years to bloom, and whilst that may be true, they give back plenty along the pathway.

Some pics. Had all sorts of trouble with them, so apologies to all in attendance for being a pain. Very dark outside, very bright Indiana Jones Sankara Stones along the table, no room to move back and heaps of different things on the table to try and lock focus on, and then the flash wouldn't fire.... (enough excuses I hope)..
