First pref is 15th for me, but looks like 14th is more popular at this stage.

So changing to the 14th!

I really like the sounds of this and because Michelle had to drop out of the last one due to a sick babysitter, I'm quite sure she will be keen too.
So please put us both down!

Sadly i will miss this one as its in the middle of the school holidays. I am however going to suggest a similar theme for late July but more focused on classified growth wines from the Haute Medoc on the Left Bank. I am keen to try and get wines from each of the major appellations ie Margaux, St Julien, St Estephe, Pauillac together with Graves.

So if people can't join during the school holidays, I am happy organising the above tasting last week of July.

David, ok, that works.

Whenever I have read articles in the likes of Decanter, the writers have always talked about the stylistic differences when the different appellations in the Haut Medoc. I would like to try and put together an offline that studies the differences. If we keep it at classified growths then we can start to eliminate variations due to production quality and focus more the terrior differences.

I think vintage is also a very important part if you want to delve into something like this though, particularly for Bordeaux.
You can get get extremely variable wine, not just based on terroir of the different appellations, for example, wouldn't want to compare wines from lets say '07 to wines of '10. if looking at "recentish" wines.

So i guess it would probably be more worthwhile if undertaking this exercise to do what you are doing, but also compare between similar vintage styles.

Correct. I was going to suggest focusing on the 2005 and the 2000 vintages depending on what people have in their cellars.

Agreed. I made a couple of attempts in the last 12 months but GPL and Pape Clément still pretty closed.

A couple of weeks out now, and Rocket have sent me the 3 course menu:

House Made Bread & Butter

ENTREES
Duck Rillettes, Cornichons, Vienna Baguette, Frisée Salad
or
Zucchini & Buffalo Mozzarella Tart, Heirloom Beetroots
or
Marinated Swordfish Carpaccio, Finger Lime, Avruga Caviar & Salmon Roe

MAINS
Slow Cooked Pork Scotch Fillet, Sugar Plum, Gazed Carrots, Sautéed Potato, Calvados Sauce
or
Pan Roasted Duck Breast, Leg Croquette, Red Cabbage, Kohlrabi Salad, Cassis Sauce
or
Char Grilled Beef Eye Fillet, Baby Spinach, Potato Gratin, Roast Tomato, Red Wine Jus
(Medium-Rare)
Mains served with sides of Fries & Salad

DESSERTS
Dark Chocolate Pavé, Mandarin Ice Cream
or
Strawberry & Raspberry Vacherin, Meringue, Custard, Basil & Raspberry Sorbet
or
Cheese Selection with Lavosh & Dried Fruits

They had Pan roasted Kingfish as part of the main, but they have agreed to replace that with the Duck for us for our theme.

Anyone have any idea of what they want to bring yet?
If there are no whites (excluding Sauternes and Champagne) should we just have some other whites? Sem? Riesling?

Lauren and I will prob bring a '96 Lafon-Rochet and a '00 Calon-Segur
Both seem to be drinking pretty well right now according to CT. Will also prob bring a backup.
Anyway, if you have any idea of what you want to bring, let me know and I will update the original post.

i will get a new thread up and going this week. I was conscious the discussion about the offline in July was sort of taking over the April discussion.

cheers
