Whoa. Great metaphor! Even if I do prefer watercolours but would probably have preferred the MM :D

A few comments of my own:

2005 House of Arras Blanc de Blancs. Lovely way to get the palate ready for all the reds to come. A really good Aussie sparkler.
1990 Wynns Coonawarra Estate John Riddoch. For some reason, I thought this wasn't quite up to what it could be. Maybe it was the oak?
1990 Wendouree Cabernet Malbec. My first properly aged Wendouree. Despite the age, there was plenty of rich and dense fruit on the palate.
2004 Petaluma Coonawarra. I've had quite a few Petaluma's now and it always delivers. An underrated wine, I think.
2004 James Irvine Grand Merlot. This is an interesting one to taste blind. Anyone who thinks 100% Aussie Merlot can't be good hasn't tried this.
2005 Noon Reserve Shiraz. Huge wine. The 16.5% ABV wasn't off-putting like previous Noon's I've tasted.
2004 Mount Mary Quintet. Elegant and balanced. I must buy more of this.
2004 Mildara Cabernet-Shiraz. Rich fruit with congruous silky tannins.
2005 Penfolds Cellar Reserve Cabernet. A lovely big wine, but unlike the Noon it needs more time to peak.
1972 Yalumba Vintage Port. A delight to drink, more so when it's your birth year.

It's Interesting how open themed offlines often end up being cabernet dominant.
