I've tried the Kelly Reserve version, the one that won the Jimmy Watson last year. A wonderfully balanced and elegant Pinot, big on the dark cherry fruit. If the Estate Pinot is anything like it, it should be a ripper.

Had a blockbuster month so far (February anyway) -= a mate told me about an auction house (starting with gr....) and I was a bit cautious to start with because of the bad press on another blog about some Langhi Ghiran but the prices looked too tempting and I couldn't help myself. It seemed that Wine Investment Services (must have gone broke with the GFC were being liquidated (lovely vision) and over 4 weeks their entire stock of wine (mostly pre-2004) went up for grabs with no reserves - wish I had more money (but still managed to spend $3388.91). Here's what I got at a paltry $12.80 a bottle - almost all in unopened cartons, cellared beautifully I may add as I've tried all the wines and just been stunned by them e.g., some of the 99 La Testas take 2 to 3 hours to open up - the one's in my cellar 15 degrees for 9 years open up within an hour so the cellaring has been better or lower in temp than mine)!:
2 x 12 x 2002 Binder Mitchell Dovetail Cabernet Sauvignon
2 x 12 x 2002 Binder Mitchell Dovetail Betoota Shiraz
8 x 6 x 1999 Classic McLaren La Testa Cabernet Sauvignon
4 x 6 x 1999 Classic McLaren La Testa Shiraz
1 x 6 x 2000 Classic McLaren La Testa Blend
1 x 12 x 2001 Willow Bridge Reserve Shiraz
2 x 6 x 2002 Willow Bridge Black Dog Shiraz
4 x 6 x 2001/2000 Cape de'Estaing Cabernet Sauvignon
1 x 12 x 2001 Peter Howland Reserve Shiraz
1 x 12 x 2002 Kilikanoon Secret Places Shiraz
1 x 12 x 2002 Torbreck Neck Oil Shiraz Grenache
1 x 6 x 2001 Hanging Rock Heathcote Shiraz
1 x 6 x 2002 Hanging Rock Heathcote Shiraz
1 x 12 x 2000 Hanging Rock Heathcote Shiraz
1 x 12 x 1999 Gartner Family Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon
1 x 12 2001 Summerfield Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
6 pack of assorted wines - 2 x 2000 Classic McLaren La Testa Blend, 2 x 2002 Hanging Rock Heathcote Shiraz and 2 x 2002 Heathcote Mail Coach Shiraz

Anyone else get some?

Just back from a Tuesday trip to the Barossa to pick up some Rockford Basket Press (general release day today)
Surprisingly few people around (I suspect the weekend will be busy).

6 x Rockford Basket Press 2012 (3 for me, 3 for the other half :) )
1 x 2012 St Hallet Blackwell magnum (still a few in stock at cellar door)
2 x 2012 St Hallet Blackwell 375ml bottles

Well done. I picked up the other two in that auction. Looking forward to seeing how good it is. Cellar tracker has rated it pretty well but on limited numbers.

My favourite wine in the 8f0s - used to cost about the same as Grange! (That is about $20 in the early 80's)!

Can't believe I overlooked these ! Make me cry. Tell me how little you paid! A very underrated wine in my experience and I've been adding the modern vintages to my cellar on occasion.

At ABaC in Barcelona ( 2 Michelin starred restaurant and accommodation) a few years ago, we had the sommelier present a mini-vertical back to 1978. The 1983 was excellent from memory and we visited the vineyard the next day for a tour and private tasting again of Mas La Plana.

Thanks for the photos Jamie
I got my two for $54 plus buyers premium.
Last I looked Ozzie's single bottle was at $35.
My two are sitting at the top of the vintage label and Ozzie's was half way down. Hence the price differenced I was in a 3 way bidding 'war' (for want of a better term) so the price went a little higher.

From what I've read, Torres believed 1983 was the best vintage of the 80's.

Thankfully this doesn't cost the same as an 83 Grange does now. Picked it up for $35 + buyers premium.

I'd never heard of this wine before. I too looked it up on CT and purchased based on the TN from mid 2013 which indicated it was in spectacular condition. Miguel himself says 1983 was the best vintage of the 80s.

I'm even more excited to try it now than before after all the comments here. Looks like we both got something very special. Fingers crossed the cork has done its job.

Firmly crossed on the corks as the provenance sounded very good.

I tried it today, the cellar door was packed/overflowing, so I did not muse over it too much, on brief impressions it is a very nice wine with good balance/structure, almost 'elegant', although to look it is lighter in body than what I was expecting, but the light is not great in the cellar door so it is hard to tell. But overall nice dark fruits, dusty tannins, and long lingering finish, in my view very typical of pre-2011 Rockford Shiraz. A very smart wine now, very cellar worthy. I'm trying to hide my stash for the at least 8-10+ year mark.
Whilst I really enjoyed the BP, the 2013 RR Cabernet was awesome. Great depth of flavour, the fruit really at the fore at the moment. Again very nice structure, good use of oak and long finish, a good example of Barossa Cab. I bought some of this for the long haul also.

3 x Mascarello Monprivato 1990 magnum

4 x Mascarello Monprivato 1998 magnum

3 x Mascarello Monprivato 2006 magnum

All Roagna wines from 2009 and 2010 x 3 bottles including Paje Crichet.

If I do not buy more than 6 x Rockford Basket Press 2010 in addition to the above I'm in control.

If 'in control' is shorthand for 'in control of a wine buying wrecking ball', then yes I'd agree

Yes, it does appear to be the 150yr anniversary release

3 X 2012 rockford BP. annual CD visit.
3 X 2013 Greenock creek alices Shiraz
1 X 2013 Greenock Creek Casey's block shiraz.

I tried the whole rockford list and whilst tempted by the moppa and the RR I put all my eggs in one 'basket'
I tried the 12 BP in dec last year and it was true to form when tasting it again. Even better to be honest.
Almost grabbed some 13 RR's but I enough 12's floating around...
