Brisbane offline 13th February?
Re: Brisbane offline 13th February?
Thanks for the notes Michael and thanks to all the attendees for a great night.
Sadly I can't take credit for the 2004 O'Shea. Can anyone remember who's that was?

Thanks for the notes Michael. Was a nice evening and great to see everyone.
I'm still blown away by the 1983 Wolfie. I can't believe it was that old and showing so, so well.
Kellee enjoyed the additional female company. These things can be a bit of a sausage fest on occasion. So hopefully the girls come out to the next one-their contribution to the conversation was great.

Keep using terms like "sausage fest" and I'm sure they'll come in droves....

Nice, but not terribly varietal?
Bingo!
I think someone (not me) used the term "a Shiraz-lover's Pinot".

Thanks Michael, lovely recap of a wonderful evening.
I can't claim the collector though, that was Ian, I brought the O'Shea.

Re: Brisbane offline 13th February?
Sounds like a good night with a nice variety of wines on offer. Good to hear the food quality remains up there.
Hopefully I can make it to another of these later in the year.

Re: Brisbane offline 13th February?
A fantastic evening again. The food was amazing as always at 85 Miskin St. Many thanks for all the genourous offerings. My quick take on the wines.
2013 Woodlands Chloe Chardonnay. Margaret River. MR is my favourite region for Chardonnay, but I have to admit I never picked this. It was quite "big" for a Chardy and possibly could have been just a tad colder. Very nice though. Thanks Clive.
2008 Pewsey Vale Riesling. Eden Valley. Still very young (due to screwcap?) and needs more time. My wine and will stash my other two bottles.
2004 Yalumba "D" Sparkling Shiraz. Barossa Valley. Still drinking oh so well. As Michael said, I guzzled my 6 pack way to quick. Really wish I could have hung onto a couple as it is travelling really well. The best bottle I've had of this wine. Very nice. Thanks Michael.
2007 Amisfield RKV Pinot Noir. Central Otago. I did manage to pick this a Pinot, but at first (as Michael said) I thought it was Grenache or a GSM blend. But then a real Pinot nose developed and gave it away quite easily. Lovely nose but Pinot this good really is wasted on me. My pick of the two Pinots although most liked the following better. Thanks Rens.
2009 Pooley Butcher's Hill Pinot Noir. Coal River Valley. I also picked this as Pinot but had no idea where it was from. Once again, a wonderful nose but it just lacked length for me. Very popular with the group though. Thanks Jarrod.
1983 Wolf Blass Grey Label. Langhorne Creek. I was very confident on this one. I knew it was Cabernet straight away and the nose just said Clare Valley to me. Some Camphor and even a little mint. Reminded me of a Wendouree but without the massive flavour profile on the palate. I was quite shocked when Michael revealed it was from Langhorne Creek. An absolute pleasure to drink and WOTN by a mile with me and the group. Many, many thanks Michael. A privilege to drink. A wonderful wine and will be extremely hard to beat as my WOTY. Right up there with the Wynn's Centenary. Stoddart trophy winner.
2009 Collector Marked Tree Shiraz. Canberra. This was another of my wines and the second last of a six pack. Wonderful nose, very fragrant and one of my favourite "young wines". Suffered a little for being after the Wolf Blass. Halliday gave this 97 and while it is a decent wine that drinks very well young, it is no way near a 97 pointer. Enjoyable enough but didn't have the complexity of some of the other wines.
1993 BVE Black Pepper Shiraz. Barossa Valley. Most thought it corked (it probably was, but I was not convinced early in the piece). The palate showed that it probably was a fantastic wine at one point in it's life but something was certainly amiss. Thanks Perry.
2004 Mt Pleasant Maurice O'Shea Shiraz. Hunter Valley. Beautiful wine that I for one didn't think was a Hunter wine. Years left in this one and will only get better. Thanks Jarrod.
2002 Pirramimma Petit Verdot. McLaren Vale. No one picked this as a PV and it's quite rare to see a straight version of this grape. Pirramimma are probably the masters of it and it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if it actually had a dash of Shiraz in it. Colour certainly didn't give it's age away as it was still quite bright and most picked it as a 2010 or near that vintage. Nice wine in it's window. My wine.
2000 St Peter's Shiraz. Grampians. A few of us thought Heathcote. Once Clive revealed it was from Great Western I picked it as a St Peter's sraight away. I've had this wine a few times and this was a very good bottle. Big fruit and tannins and oak to back it up. Should get better with a few more years as some more aged flavours come out. My 2nd pick for WOTN. Thanks Jarrod.
2006 Teusner FG Riebke Shiraz. Barossa Valley. Fantastic wine that is in quite a good spot now. Will live for a lot longer yet but it drinks so well now. Quite a big wine but everything is in really good balance. Probably 3rd best wine for me. Thanks Rens.
2000 Mt Pleasant Maurice O'Shea Shiraz. Hunter Valley. This had had some decant time and I thought it was a bit of an improvement over the 2004. Not by that much though. Once again, I didn't pick it as a Hunter but I rarely drink Hunter Shiraz. Wonderful wine that once again, has plenty in the tank. Thanks Luke.
2006 Rockford Rifle Range Cabernet. Barossa Valley. Needs more time but even after all the above wines, I still really enjoyed this a lot. As Michael said, it more than held it's own. One of my favourite wines. Thanks Perry
I'll try and post Ren's fantastic effort of a wine label for his Amisfield Pinot. Gave us all a good laugh. Great job Rens.
Cheers

If you had to choose between drinking great wine or winning Lotto, which would you choose - Red or White?
