Had some of the 1999s of this and loved it. I still have one. Maybe save one of your 96s for a Grenache offline some time soon and we can compare/contrast (or just drink/enjoy)?

This sounds like a fantastic idea. I'm finding I quite enjoy grenache. I'd love to share it.

Wendouree 2013 vintage: 5 x Cabernet Malbec 1 x Muscat of Alexandria 6 x each other reds
36 bottles all together
Not bad for a 2nd yearer eh?
I really appreciated Mr & Mrs Brady for this bumper crop allotment.
I am more happy to spend $1800 on 36 bottles of seriously made boutique wines than mere 3 bottles of mass produced label wines (i.e. Penfold's Grange).
Yes, yes I know. More Spaniards. Could not resist when I saw the prices of the Gran Reservas and then had to fill out the order to half a case (you can't have the postie shipping 5 bottles)...
1 x 2006 Muga Muga Viura 4 x 2007 Bodegas San Valero Marques de Valdecanas Gran Reserva Garnacha 1 x 2001 Marques De Murrietta Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial

8 x 2004 Bellarmine Riesling - Since my wife (unexpectedly) drank my last bottle, my desire to have another burned quite strongly.

Crikey, I've found myself another ghost writer...can't disagree with what you have said here MSE...but very happy with a mixed dozen Wendouree.
Guess, I will shoot myself in the foot now and work out how I can comtemplate the Wynns juggernaut coming in the next few days...maybe massed produced but something about 20 year old Coonawarra.

Hi Craig,
There's nothing wrong with splashing cash on the big household names, as long as you can acquire them at the lowest (or closest) possible prices. We all fall for the pedigree and reputation. The Wynns pricing jack up is not as criminal as Penfold's does. I prefer John Riddoch >>> Michael anytime.

Tasted the JR and Michael (and the rest of the new releases) with Sue Hodder at our local on Sunday (Boccaccio). Both JR and Michael very good. Would be happy with either. Also tasted the Child's which is a first release. very good cab as well. And, yes, thankfully the pricing is not in the stratosphere of Penfolds or even efforts to jack up HoG.
As an aside about JR and Michael, have to say that I have had a few Michael recently from 90, 91, 96 and 98. They are just sensational. So don't write off the Michael, and that's coming from a cabernet fan who loves the JR.

No argument there...have this dear friend who consumes white wine and champagne exclusively. Gave her a glass of the 2004 Michael on release and again last year as a 10 year old...'one of the best reds that I have ever had'
Found it hard to disagree, interstingly that shiraz in Coonawarra lives in the cabernet shadow, but find that Wynns shiraz is a barometer for everything else in the range...when its on song, so is everything else. Not dissimilar to Seppelts Chalambar as an indicator for the other releases.
well its not exactly a purchase but at long last, Langtons have finally delivered my 2011 En Primeur Sauternes order, one being 6 x chateau rieussec, the other being 6 x chateau coutet.

Unfortunately not - didn't get a chance to taste the 12's last year

Hi mjs,
Wynns Michael is spectacular Coonawarra Shiraz, I must admit (only had the 96' and 98' before, and tried 10' only from free tasting), I guess I have the taste preference bias due to the "go-to" mindset of Barossa Valley, Mclaren Vale = Shiraz, and Coonawarra = Cab.

(Yes, I've taken out a second mortgage).
I am not sure if even a second mortgage would be enough to pickup the bottle of 2010 Romanee Conti itself I saw on the shelf at the Watsons Pacific Place branch in my HK stopover on the way to Paris. A cool $HK 240 000! I suspect this some sort of record for gouging pricing of a current or recent release wine.

Thats not current release! Once you sell it at auction you can no longer buy DRC locally again as your name is recorded with purchase and bottle number

Still waiting on those Wendouree's.
I am just about to do the exact same purchase, I am in two minds though as to whether I should kick up the Wynn's component slightly and get on this vintec deal.

Maybe this should be in the 'what I'm drinking now' thread?

Possibly sounds a bit rich coming from me, but its important to keep an open mind on regions and varieties, otherwise you will miss out on some gems. For example, I love Barossa shiraz, but there's plenty of other very good things coming form the Barossa, that's the interesting part of the journey, exploring and finding those gems.
