I think we can probably group the wines up into flights to match up. If the numbers stay at 13 I have a couple of magnums to choose from that may be a better choice and give us a bit more of a taste with the main courses.

I concur - the degustation looks superb - may find other offerings to match if we decide to go this way and they allow it. I remember I promised Ian to bring along an old Kinzbrunner chardy (Toolangi Reserve 2002) and I might find something older in the red dept....

Luke, Degustation is fine by the good people at 85 Miskin st as a starting point and they have offered to modify to meet the final flight of wines.
DJ1980, I am fine to see another a join us. When the numbers get above 12 the servings can get a bit small, but we can always make it work some way or another. I will swap for a magnum and can look at something else that maybe matches with someone else to double up somewhere else. Michael consider a second bottle of Majella 08 sparking being brought along. I could not resist buying another 6 pack the other day when they sent out their special. Anyhow it’s not my final call so will let others speak up as well.
I have not invited my partner as I was worried numbers were getting too large.
Personally, I think we should set a limit of 12 as anything larger means the pours are pretty small, and it's hard to talk to everyone. On the other hand, thirteen is a lucky number (it's the number on the back of my football - read soccer - jersey).
As far as numbers go, I'm with Michael on the dozen, but if the group decides differently, then so be it. It would not be the first time we've had a very large table. If we do go down that road, I can shelve the Greenock Creek (Sorry Ian) and go with a second Baron, unless someone else has a creek block doing nothing in their cellar.....

At the risk of pissing off Michael and Rens I disagree about the numbers. I think we drink far too much of everything and often don't get to open bottles because we've already had too much (leaving GPKs vintage Boll the other day is a case in point). If we were drinking Grange I could see the point but the pours for 16 are only slightly smaller than for 12. Also we usually get a few drop out anyway! What do others think?

I'm a little torn as I agree with Luke about the amount of wines that we drink and normally there is a dropout etc. Part of the reason that we drink so much wine is because everybody is just so generous with how much wine they bring. Having said that I also agree with Michael on the size of the table. People at one end don't even get to chat to people at the other end and that is one of the things that I so enjoy about our nights, listening to everyones opinions on the wines. Nick has been a regular since I started coming a few years back so it would be a shame for him to miss out, as it is also great to welcome new wine lovers/friends into the fold too (as I was a few years back). If we have 14 people it basically means about 50ml of wine each allowing for sediment and a wee taste at home when decanting. I think 14 should maybe be the limit at this stage. The selfish side of me says keep it as it is because I was so looking forward to trying Rens's Creek Block, but whatever the group decides is fine with me (but my suggestion for 14 is my vote).
I guess it means that we should try to hold these events more regularly. It is a burden on who organises but they are thoroughly enjoyable nights and some of the best wines I've ever had have been at our Auswine offline's and I see it as a chance to drag something nice out of the cellar and share it with like minded wine enthusiasts. Perhaps we should try to get a more formally organised group together as Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide have. It does mean a bit of effort and as per is human nature it normally falls to a few. I am willing to put some effort in and try and get something up and running and I'm sure others would be keen to help out as well. If we were to have say monthly get togethers then the numbers would settle as not everybody can make it every time. Just some food for thought.
