Isn't the XYZ their fresh, juicy Shiraz for early drinking? I recall really enjoying this a few years ago...
It started off as their experimental wine in 2007...where they tried some whole bunch...2008 had Canberra fruit because of the poor year..and from then on it has been sort of this mid range whatever shiraz for them....
To celebrate daughter finishing exams this semester I opened a Selosse Initial disg. Sept 2013 but it was quite premoxed. Way more so than the house style. Thems the breaks. At least I didn't bring it to an offline.
An airline size bottle 187ml?? of Marks and Spencer Prosecco Extra Brut - Not very nice but drank it all anyway.
2007 Mount Pleasant Elizabeth Semillon - I think I have a bottle of this once every couple of weeks at least and probably have gone through about 2 cases, and has been the same pleasant mildly aged Hunter Sem. Can't go wrong with this. I wonder if I could say the same after going through about 24 bottles if it was under cork.

this is more like a mid term drinking wine, and of course you can always drink them early,I couldn't remember how it taste like when I first tried this at the cellar door,but surly not Pinot like. maybe in a few years time this will turn to strawberry juice.
2005 Penfolds Bin 128 Shiraz. Coonawarra. Largely uninspiring wine. This seemed to just have something missing. I am a little bias against Penfolds and I am going to drink all my last stocks over the next year or so and I've long ago discontinued buying. I feel there is better value elsewhere. 3/5 2008 Bellarmine Shiraz. Pemberton. Decent mid week quaffer at a reasonable price. Bit of spice and even some pepper, but enough fruit to carry it over the line. 3/5 2004 Chain of Ponds The Ledge Shiraz. Adelaide Hills. Back when Chain of Ponds used to make decent wine. My last bottle and I wish I had more. Showing aged characters and still holding decent colour. Won't get any better but seems to be holding OK from my bottle last year. Drink up if you have any and enjoy. 4/5

2012 Head Contrarian Shiraz. Very smart full bodied rich and opulent without the overt mintiness mentioned by others. Maybe it's just my palate missing it, or it is settling down? Anyway a lovely wine, full of potential. Love to try this in 5 to 8 years. Tempted to grab some of the 2014 Contrarian on the strength of this showing. Even the missus gave it the coveted seal of approval.
Collector 2009 reserve shiraz Thanks davevino for guiding me to such a fantastic wine, you probably had no idea you even did that Delicious Along side it a head red 2014, nice wine but very young and sitting next to the collector it's a bit unfair The colour difference is quite striking Red then purple

2012 The Story 'Henty vineyard' shiraz Cracking wine, and perfect example of cool climate Victorian shiraz. Strong blackberries, Cherry and violets. Provincial herbs and a nose of unsweetened ribena. Just Beautiful and will only get better in the years to come. It saddens me greatly That this is the last vintage ever to be made with these grapes as they are no longer available. The wine world is poorer for it
Penfold's Grandfather Tawny Port, quite sweet, pale amber hue with yellow tinge on the rim. Smokey leather, toffee, raisin and rancio (not so apparent) on the nose, fair amount of sweetness with plum wine like flavour, round and smooth with fair amount of acid for the finish. Good tawny but too overpriced ($70 price tag can get me 2x Debortoli Old Boy 21 yr Tawny).
Tonight it's a 2009 Wild Duck Creek Estate 'The Blend' Cabernet/Merlot
I usually get a WDCE wine (or two) out when the mailer arrives to remind myself why I buy. Great encouragement from this example.
Lifted floral nose with vanilla and boysenberry and blackberry pastille (in the background). Gorgeous scents. Interesting fruit melange of blackberry and polished black cherry fruit on entry. Sweet sumptuous acid carries the fruit and adds length to the well-structured tannin. This has only been open two hours and is improving rapidly. Rating: Excellent. QPR: OTC (off the charts)
2011 Guillot-Brox "Les Genievrieres" Bourgogne Rouge Picked this up from a city boutique wine store for around $40, venturing into Burgundy without paying the big dollars. Light bodied, sour cherry, acidic with tanin. What I found missing was some sweet fruit and spice, with the wine a bit green and stalky. A bit one dimensional, and not certain how it would develop over a couple of years.
VasseFelix2002MargaretRiverCabernetMerlot - Didn't have too many expectations for this but it's drinking very well, retained excellent colour with very little browning, fresh fruit on the palate, a hint of mint, tannins fully resolved, a lovely mature wine.
Screwcap. Very primary. Bright luscious fruit with good underpinning acid, soft ripe tannins. Good length. This is looking so young, I doubt I will open another for the next 10 years. Long life ahead of it, a top marque Australian Cabernet blend.

Also opened a 1998 Mildara Coonawarra Cabernet only a few weeks back .... just a lovely elegant example. Wonderful typicity of the region, grape and vintage.
Just opened one too Lovely wine, this has aged beautifully Still lots of fruit but really nice leathery flavours and so smooth on the palate Don't think I'm going to bother decanting, it's drinking beautifully straight out of the bottle within minutes in the glass Lots of little black crystals on the bottom of the cork. Cork was in perfect condition, hope the other bottle I have is as in as good condition
06 Rockford rifle range cab sav. So closed and still just a baby. Perfect cork but its just so young. Decanted for 3 hours, drunk out of riedel syrah, and hasnt moved an inch. Slight green capsicum, brown earth and sour Blackberries coiled around subtle oak, tannins and an acid backbone.
Quite remarkabke for what it doesnt say right now, and i think it's going to be a superstar......in over 10+ years.
Im in the deep, dark woods of southern Bohemia and was delighted to find $10 Barbaresco and $17 Amarone in a local supermarket. Yep, ghastly big chain brands but with typicity of both these wonderful regions to warm a traveler.

The fam and I went out to celebrate someone's 55th birthday last night at Salt Pepper Nutmeg at Roseville. Superb local restaurant, lovely food, good pricing. We started with a Krug Grand Cuvee which had been cellaring for about 5 years - simply stunning champagne!! Followed by a magnum of 1998 Rockford Basket Press shiraz. This is why you cellar wine deep rich smooth flavoursome velvety still with a rich fruit component. The winos amongst us were in heaven!!
