A) Depends on your income/budget as to whether you'll think it's 'worth it'.

B) Not had the 05, generally it's world class wine, but will definitely need at least 10 more years in a cool cellar to show well, ideally 15-20 years. You could drink it now, but would be a bit of a waste, unless you can afford a few bottles!

I haven't had the 05, but past Lalas from great years have been magnificent. As Tigger indicates, it needs more time.

Stick to the good years for Jaboulet La Chapelle - when on song it's fantastic, though they underperformed badly for some ten years.... Some of the Chapoutiers are good with time - I have quite a bit of Pavillon.

I'm not an expert on this topic but checked on the Langtons site and this vintage last sold some time in 2015 for mid $400's.

The price guide is 460 -640 but youd never get it for 460 on auction when the bids start at 500

The Wine Price Guide tab on their website. Once you search for Guigal then la Mouline then 2005

you will probably read different, but as far as I am concerned, 1995 was the last decent La Chapelle before 2010, which is monumental. They really went thru a horrendous period.

if you can find any of Clape's Cornas 2010 grab it. Stunning wine, I saw it in 2014 where it topped the night amongst many greats from the Northern Rhone, including all three LaLa's present. Smoked the Chave that was present too!!!
pretty hard to source, though. Shouldn't be more than $200-250, I would think. I keep reminding myself to go out and find some!!! :D

Clape?? Don't know about Clape's 11, 12 or 13's, but would not imagine they are in the same ball-park given the vintages in question.

La Chapelle - 61,78 and 90 are all time greats (not had the first 2). There was a dud patcg, but one of the posters on the board indicated a recent sample of the 03 was pretty good. They are back in form with the past couple of good years in the Rhone (apparently)

All of the Lalas are going to be good....Have not had too many myself but all of the ones I've had were very good....

Are they worth it? Depends on each individual...Could you get something nearly as good for a lot less? Yes...but if you're looking for that last bit of difference, you're going to spend exponentially more....Whether that extra money is worth it to you will depend on how much money you have to spend and how much you're seeking that little bit of difference...and also where your palate is...

Also, at that price point, it might be worth making sure the place you'll get it from, will take it back if there are any issues (TCA). Unless you're getting a killer deal that makes the risk worth it...

I'd second the Cornas Clape recommendation. I've not had the 2010 but I cannot believe that it's price has risen so much. The last bottle I had was the '04 and it was lovely, restrained and tight, but so elegant, rich, deep black-fruited, and a mineral and tannic finish.

In any case I highly recommend the Clape Cornas.

Mahmoud.
