Actually I didn't think you were having a go at me - at least not until you posted the above. Anyway, you did get me to post about my two recent purchases and that is no bad thing on a wine forum.

Cheers................Mahmoud.

Awkwardly encouraging more wine talk and enabling more purchasing. I can live with that.

Sharpness in words was unjustified and I apologise for any offence caused.

Rare to get Aussie wines under 20 that drink great let alone at 10. Though I will say there is a veritable ocean of below average wine in Europe at that price.

Thought about a couple of bottles from 1937 Barolo, but I think it might be vinegar by now hehe.

ON the purchasing side, picked up a dozen 2010 Siro Pacenti Brunello in HK for $80/bottle, which seems to be a good price. Suckling 100pts, so I thought what the hell when I got the offer. No idea what is like, Jamie, maybe you can set me straight??

Suckling???

If you are about in HKG this has a few slots available-

HKWS Tasting - Mature Brunello 1975 to 1998

7pm, Wed. April 29th,

Langham Place Hotel, Mongkok

OK I know, is this REALLY the "last of the stash"?! – Yes it is, as the last of my 1990 wines are also being use as dinner wines. I have been putting on 1990-vintage Brunello events for the HKWS since 1996; those who went to those early events – 5 or 6 between 1996 and 2006 – will recognize a few of the old favourites, which we can also enjoy, as is only right – at our leisure, over dinner, with the kind of dishes even a Tuscans should approve of – hanks to chef Paul McLoughlin for assuring us of that!

So with this vertical we nudge up into the late 1990s. Tonight we have some new additions as well as some of the last of the wines I have stored since the mid to late 1990s: Altesino 1975, Argiano 1990 (pre-scandal!), Banfi’s Poggio Al’Oro 1995, Cerbaiola 1988, Caparzo La Casa 1988, and Val di Suga’s 2 single vineyards: Vigna Spuntali 1990 and Vigna Del Lago 1990. We venture into different territory with Capanna 1977, and Gorelli 1997, adding in two of the stars of the appellation: Poggio di Sotto 1995 and Gianfranco Soldera’s Case Basse Riserva 1998. For dinner we have bottles of the Argiano and Spuntali 1990s.

Hi Jamie,
would absolutely love to have a crack at those wines, you could finally show me all I am missing in Italy!!!
unfortunately, I am stuck up in Wuhan at the moment, it was going to be just this weekend, but now I look like being here for much of the week coming up grrr
if I get back by Wednesday, I would be keen. Was going to have dinner with Redwhiteandrose from this board tomorrow night, he is in SZ at the moment. He might be keen if you have a spare seat, I think he doesn't go back to Oz until Thursday.
many thanks for the invite, it will be a tragic miss, but keep me in mind in future if you have a spare seat going!!!! :D :D :D :D

12 x Chalmers 2012 Arturo Heathcote Malbec
12 x Our tennis club bottling of a 2013 Coonwarra Cabernet that's quite nice. Some furry tannins but some lovely fruit underneath that should come together in a year or 2.

And duty free coming home from NZ:

1 x Oban 14 YO single malt whisky
1 x Tallisker Dark Cloud SMW

Carl

Bought my Bro' a bottle of the Oban nearly ten years ago for his 60th, had a bottle of Talisker 10yo years ago, don't remember the taste I had of the Oban nor much of the Talisker other than that it had a good whack of peat. Enjoy!

Did you pick these up at the Stonewallers cellar door? If so, do you know, or anyone else, what year SVS wines are on sale? 2006? And what year BP magnums?
Visiting later this week!

12 x G Mascarello "Monprivato" Barolo 2011.

Never ends! Ready to drink 2030+ so last vintage I buy I think. But a fantastic wine despite the price escalating rapidly.

I'm not a stonewaller yet, so unfortunately I can't tell you. Give them a call, I've found them to be incredibly helpful.

Cheers and have fun.
