Sorry I have not posted for a while, however I have enjoyed everyone elses contributions, A few from memory over the last month:
2012 Turkey Flat Shiraz I will be interested to hear if anyone else has tried this wine. Decided to try the wine after purchasing numerous bottles of it based on reputation and reviews - how can you go wrong with a 2012 Barossa Shiraz with great reputation? I was struggling to find anything good with this wine, consumed over three nights. Upon opening - pouring into the glass looking like Raspberry Cordial. Likewise the palate followed the appearance. Simple red berry fruit, no length or body. More like a "Cleanskin Shiraz" - Have I got it wrong? Any other opinions?

I buy the Shiraz most years, and have the '12. Yes, I thought it less complex than other good years, but i still think it a well made wine. Turkey Flat Shiraz is always a little more understated than most Barossa Shiraz, but that's why I like it.

Schubert Estate Goose-Yard Block Shiraz 2004

Bought for a song on Cellarlink along with a case of Hobbs Shiraz 2004.
Very more-ish ... savoury plum, decent length and very elegant on the palate given some very ripe fruit. Improving on day 2 so should easily last, or needs a decent decant. Really really like this - in general top 2004 Barossa Shiraz has 5-10 years in it, easily, and still worth picking up for the QPR on aged wines much as the 1996s and 1998s used to be.

I buy the Shiraz most years, and have the '12. Yes, I thought it less complex than other good years, but i still think it a well made wine. Turkey Flat Shiraz is always a little more understated than most Barossa Shiraz, but that's why I like it.

I have also tried this. Solid wine. Perhaps a little more in the red fruit spectrum than usual for this wine, but lovely acid. I expect it will darken and mellow and may be a long-termer rather than the usual 6-10 year optimum. But I'm NO expert. I think it is just a little less approachable at its age than previous/other vintages.

Thanks everyone for the response to the Turkey Flat. Sorry to cause any alarm, and I am happy that I have misjudged the wine, as I have a few in the cellar. Will revisit in 8-10 years

2006 leeuwin art series chardonnay. Love this wine. Stunning. Had with scallop pancakes.

2009 heirloom eden valley shiraz. Meh. Was ok.
Decanted for about an hour or so and it had some nice coffee/mocha/spicy notes on the nose
but just fell flat on the palate.Too much Stalky/Stem/vegetal flavours on the finish for mine.
Tannins were poking around on the front of my tongue but generally fairly soft/smooth.
Can't say I've ever scored a wine but for the fun of it I'd say about an 88 for this one.
Be keen to try the 2010 for comparison.

Two wines open tonight.

Second half of a bottle of 2012 SCP Adelaide Hills Nebbiolo and the first half of a bottle of 2012 Thorne-Clark 'Morello' Barossa Neb.

The SCP is better tonight than last night. Now medium-bodied (it was pretty light yesterday) this has some savoury bloody characters with some blackcurrant fruit. Definitely a food wine.

The TC Morello is stinky (bretty?) - blood, meat, earth and funk - very little if any fruit. Not terribly attractive. Perhaps flawed?

Neither as good as the 2012 Coriole I had a couple of weeks ago.

Chaffey Brothers Düfte Punkt 2014: Eden Valley vineyard blend of 43% Gewürztraminer, 29% Riesling and 28% Weisser Herold (the latter also known as Kerner which is Riesling x Trollinger). Very aromatic with rose petals, lychee and musk, slightly off-dry, good sweetness-acidity balance, low-ish alcohol (11.7%), so easy to drink and highly enjoyable. Great food wine.

The Pike's Merle Reserve Riesling 2010 is a darling as the white quaffer for the month. All that you'd want in a Clare but with a lovely rich purity of fruit, a little toasty development on the edges but overall a precise wine loaded with delicate florals amongst what's expected from the region. 93pts+

Cuilleron St Joseph 2007. Rich and slightly blocky, probably better in a few years when the structure softens and the fruit rounds out. 91pts+

Henschke Mt Edelstone 1996. Holding and divine. Better than 5 years ago. I've had 3 bottles now and look at those corks! Professional cellaring is the only option! Pop n' pour, and amalgam of secondary dark fruits with a Henschke complexity from the deft oak usage and old vines. 95pts

Chateau DuTertre 2005 is very good drinking on day one but it fails terribly on day 2 with oxidation setting in quickly. This surprised me but very happy the decant this briefly and drink on day 1. 90pts



Mader Rosacker Riesling 2011 is just next door to Clos St Hune. This is a powerful and rich Alsatian, delivering at the top end if the region's ripeness but well contained withing it's structure. Unbelievable value. 92pts+

Vernay Vernon Condrieu 2011 is one of the best of the appellation though needing a few years it shows florals, appropriate fruit richness and fine nuances of minerality supporting the acid in the finish. 93pts+

Coleraine 2009 I didn't prepare this well but its serious and needs more time. Love the dark coal fruit like notes, all compressed needing 5 years to develop. Very long wine with a fine structure of tannins and acidity. 93pts+

Domaine de Chevalier blanc 2005 was a stand-out. Wow! In magnum should live forever but stunning now. Even with a shitty head cold.

I quite agree.
Last week we had the blanc de blanc 2005 I think & last night the 2005 regular-no one else atm in Australia comes close to the nuances.

2004 Benoit Lahaye Champagne, quite mature and full bodied, delicious, and way better than the Moët NV that followed. Simple and sweet mass produced lolly water.
Then, 1996 Penfolds Bin 389 was seemingly on the way down, or perhaps just stripped of its normal structure. Anyway, not a good showing. Followed by a 2009 Clonakilla SV, nowhere near ready, actually quite disappointing compared to say, the '08 which I have had a few times. Is 2009 supposed to be a good year for the SV?

Last night to celebrate our son's return from a holiday in Japan and more importantly to honour our Gallipoli history we ate some crumbed lamb cutlets, mashed potatoes and greens washed down with a Balnaves 2000 Coonawarra Cabernet (cork). A lovely wine that still needs more time (lots) to develop the mature characteristics of cabernet. Still a good wine but closed and unyielding. The colour was still as black as night.

Had 1 glass last night to bring the bottle level down, very tight, overpowering tannins and rather high alcohol. Much more approachable with 24hrs in the open bottle. Tannins still a bit too dominant but nice fruit, ripe cherries, rasberries and a touch of bitter chocolate, medium finish. Think a few more years will benefit this wine.

Petaluma Piccadilly Chardonnay, 2002, under cork. Really like this, just wish I had some nice creamy cheeses to go with it!
Lots of age development, yellow, like a LE art series of that kind of age under cork. Baked pears and lemon tart, melted butter. Nice acidity, although the fruit had maybe faded a touch too much. I'll be drinking the other bottle very soon.

Champagne Moutard NV
It's the $25 champagne they sell at LL, thought I'd give it a go as I didn't really want to open anything else but felt like some fizz.

It's not terrible but lets say you get what you pay for. Very one dimensional and not much length. Some apple flavours, but more toffee apple (I exaggerate), than pink lady. Bubbles fizzed out quite quickly too.
I still prefer it to alot of aussie sparklings you get for that price point such as A by Arras, but yeah, I think I'll stick to my Taittinger NV that I have about 18 bottles left of.

A couple of nice 96s yesterday.

St Hallet Old Block Shiraz - beautiful nose- fresh garden, strawberry and chocolate. Velvety palate with reasonable length. This wont get better but should hold.

Rockford SVS Flaxman Shiraz - an even better nose, and slightly fuller body & greater length than the Old Block. Very good wine that seems to have some years left.

I think Daz was simply pining for the old Weekly Drinking Thread (and pissed on Scotch).

It was an institution here for a long time. Not Daz being pissed on Scotch, the old weekly threads.

This thread has grown into the running list of quick tasting notes. I too pined for a while for the weekly thread - doesn't really make any difference, and I like this one now. However, the title could be changed to Quick Wine Notes (to distinguish it from the more detailed individual notes poster post) and still be the running history of the wines forumites are imbibing - not RIGHT now!!
