Good Melbourne BYO

Post by catchnrelease »

Hey guys, going to Melbourne in mid April and want to track down a good BYO restaurant. Something quite central as we'll be staying in the city and we don't want to have trouble getting back to the hotel. Looking to spend $50-70ish per head, corkage not included. We'll be going up Mornington way earlier so we will likely have a bottle of Pinot or Chardonnay or something under our arms.

Recommend away!

Alex

simply cannot go past Matteo's in Brunswick. Superb. I have a son who is a chef in a hatted restaurant, and he reckons the food at Matteo's is better lol.

I was going to say matteo's but haven't been there in 2 years, so don't
Know what it's like now....apparently even better! Got to go back asap
Corkage was about $20, but cant remember if that was per bottle or per person.

Is there anywhere in the city centre?

Travelling to Melbourne semi-frequently for work, usually staying in Flinders St and would like to find a BYO.

Cheers

Melbourne CBD isn't the easiest place for BYO. Your best bet is in Chinatown I'd say.
France Soir in South Yarra allows it most days. Ablas in Carlton is BYO.
There are are also more restaurants that give you the BYO option earlier in the week. Union dining in Richmond allows BYO on Monday and Tuesday. I think that both the Ladros Fitzroy and Pahran do something similar. I'm sure there would be more examples of that too.

Another option in the CBD is Mezzo but I don't think they allow Friday and Saturday night.

another vote for Luxembourg on Tuesdays, a ripping place.
CBD pretty bereft of good BYO, cheap and cheerful Chinese if you want, I would recommend the Supper Inn off Little Bourke for authentic Chinese, or Westlakes if you want the Aussie version of Chinese. :D
