Christmas 2014 Drinking: What have you got lined up?

Post by sjw_11 »

Well, Sparky's Christmas message and Felix's run down of his plans for the 25th made me think its also time for our usual Christmas drinking thread...

We are only a week away from the big day and I imagine a few (like myself!) are already getting stuck into a few fine bottles...So let us know what you have lined up for Xmas and its surrounding days, also known as Drinktober....

:D

And Merry Christmas all! Hope you all have a safe and happy holiday period and a terrific 2015.

PS Im also curious: whats on your Xmas Day table to accompany the festive plonk?

Got the in laws and my mum and 2 sisters coming to ours for a fairly laid back lunch. Sisters know their wines, Mum knows what she likes, in laws couldnt care.

Breakfast will be home cured "black" bacon, leg ham, eggs, and a couple of glasses of Joseph Sparkling, prob shared with a couple of friends who live nearby.
Big sis bringing the bubbly to go with oysters
A whole bunch of salads, a slow roasted rolled and stuffed leg of pork, crispy roast spuds will be matched with a 2009 Kevin John and a 2010 William Downie Gippsland Pinot
Dessert will be a homemade Christmas pud (that has been hanging in our spare room tempting me for the last 3 weeks !) with a drowning of vanilla custard and if i can be bothered a vanilla bean ice cream and that will be matched by hopefully the star of the show, an '82 Noble One.

If any one is still willing we have cheese and some 30 odd bottles of single malt (another addiction) to choose from

I will be working yet again over the Xmas and New Year period so this Saturday is the big day for me and my kids..

Drinks - A couple of bottles of Rockford Black Shiraz and a Joseph sparkling to kick things off. After that I plan to open the 1993 magnum Basket Press that we never managed to get into for my daughters 21st a couple months ago. Perhaps a 05 Vat 1 for the white drinkers as well.

Food - A couple kilo's of prawns, couple dozen oysters, ham on the bone, and a slow roasted pork shoulder on the webber. A few greens to keep the women happy too :D

Enjoy and all the best !

I have some Penfolds to see what they taste like; 2010 Bin 407 for my side of the family and a Bin 2012 Bin 389 for my better halves side. I just hope I get at least a glass and a half. We also have some bubbles to offload at the in-laws place as we're not fans and they were gifts but the FIL has the same idea with some rose he's acquired over the last few years

Last day today and I now have a 2012 Rockford Rifle Range to sample so I'm hoping the misses can acquire some lamb cutlets for dinner so I can crack one tonight.
