Would have to be severe currency movement - Australian importers and retailers are not at all shy when it comes to marking up imported wines.

In any case, I don't see that much upside exporting foreign wines from Australia:
- Postage is expensive;
- Heat damage risk in transit;
- Higher chance of heat damage from poor storage in Australian retail outlets vs UK/European retailers;
- Not that much foreign wine actually makes it to Australia anyway (in comparison to HK).

There are inflows and outflows but sure not on a grand scale.

First time in a long time I went long on Aussie wines due some impressive sales in HKG due new stock being bought at lower $AUD-

12 x Clonakilla Hilltops 2011

12 x Clonakilla Oriada Shiraz 2009

12 x Wild Duck Springflat 2004

12 x Duval Plexus GSM 2012

12 x Duval Entity Shiraz 2012

12 x Vavasour Felix Pinot 2010

Splitting with mates so I'll end up with 4 of each to nicely restock the wine fridge with good quaffing.

Jamie,

The 2 John Duval wines are awesome and I bought them both in Magnum as well as the 750ml. The 2004 WDC Springflat needs another 10 years. It's a brute of a wine. Right up Dave's alley :D . Enjoy.

Anderson in Rutherglen sent me an email about some cheap old cleanskins. And you know how I like cheap:
12 x 2008 gewurztraminer (pretty good)
12 x 2008 white blend ("dry riesling style", but works well with spicy food)
12 x 2001 Shiraz (serious yum factor)
(all for $246 including postage).
And so did Paulett
6 x 2014 Pauletts Polish Hill River Riesling
6 x 2012 Pauletts Antonina Riesling
Jonathan

Ian - I assume the magnums came directly from JDV?

Teisto,

I got them from Artisons in the Barossa. Sort of resonably priced. I got a 2008 Plexus Magnum a couple of years ago as well.

Thx. They'll all go quick but I'll park most of the Spring Flats at the bottom of my wine fridge.

Spoilt for choice of late. Last week Hentely Farm tasting in Scarborough, yesterday Unwined and in a few weeks the Howard Park tasting at Royal Fresh Water Bay. Life's good.

I expect to be a few hundred dollars lighter after the Howard Park tasting too, Mark. Especially riesling and chardonnay.

daz wrote:I was too tempted by a mystery wines 24 hour discount offer, succumbed. The Mount Barker riesling 2013 is reckoned to be Plantagenet in another forum's white wine section. The Frankland River shiraz 2011 I reckon is Ferngrove Dragon; the TN on the seller's site is almost a reflection of JH's (94pts) and similar to CM's (91pts) so I've ordered a 6pk of each at $13.20 and $14 per bottle delivered, respectively.

Hi Daz. If it is the Plantagenet riesling, $13.20 is a really good buy. I buy six (or more) of this wine every year and cellar at least half of it. Stocks back to 2008, with the odd older bottle.

Hey Allan, thanks for the tick.

Well, a box of Plantagenet and a box of Ferngrove Orchid Series were delivered at work yesterday. The JH review of Plantagenet Riesling 2013 rated it 94pts compared to 96pts for the 2012 that apparently won Best Wine in Show at the 2012 WA wine show but the TN of the 2013 is pretty good anyway and delivery was included for both. CM has really praised the 2014, gives it 95pts, look forward to your TN of it.

Have you tasted many Frankland River wines including any from Ferngrove? Their Dragon 2011 seems like a real bargain at $14, less than half the rrp of $32 quoted by JH at TWC and CM at TWF with ratings of 94pts and 91pts respectively. I'll bring a bottle of each home next week to taste them. This afternoon I also, locally, grabbed a discounted bottle of Sandalford Estate Reserve MR Cabernet 2009 for $21.94 that has some positive comments on TWF. Interested in your opinions + or -.

Cheers

Couldn't pass a bottle of St Hugo Barossa Shiraz 2010 in a clearance bin at the barn - marked at $38 it was $26.60 after the 30% discount. JH 92pts commented on oak level, CM 95pts all positive. There are some bottles of Wolf Blass Grey Label Shiraz 2011 also in the bin with the 30% discount sticker, was put off by the vintage but checked reviews, JH 94pts, CM 91+pts. If there's any left tomorrow I'll check the marked price, may grab a bottle or two. There aren't often very good wines in the clearance bins bearing the 30% discount sticker.

Visit to the NOON cellar Door yielded;
2 X 2013 Noon Twelve Hundred Hours Cabernet Sauvignon
Tried the Reserve cab and shiraz, twelve bells and eclipse but all were sold out.
Bit of a tease to try but not be able to buy.
Got my name down on the 'waiting list' for the mailing list.
Nice people, nice place. :D

Hey Scotty,

Glad you enjoyed your visit to Noon Cellar Door. Agree they are great people and the wines aren't bad either. :wink:

Didn't think there was a Reserve Cabernet release this year, hence the release of the Twelve Hundred Hours Cabernet Sauvignon. Did you try a back vintage instead?
Cheers

On the money mate. I just asked the boss and she confirmed we only tried the
twelve Hundred Hours cab which we bought. I swore we tried the reserve Cab! there you go.
Must've been the fact that there was a million people crammed into the cellar door
and the wines were coming thick and fast.
Tried everything else and the Noon crew couldn't do enough even though the majority of their wines were sold out.
