Had the opportunity to try the latest release Alice, Apricot block and Seven Acre at cellar door yesterday whilst ferrying some Sydney visitors around the Barossa (lifes hard) and I was very impressed, even with the high alcohol levels the quality seems to be back to the late 90's, early 2000's levels again.

I agree. Was there last weekend and quite enjoyed their carbernet, apricot & 7 acre shiraz.

noticed the 2010 and 2011 apricot blocks had and alc/vol of 14% whereas the current release is 16%.
Seems like a bit of a jump.

2011's were so-so when we were at CD in 2013

and 2008 Roenfeldt Road's undrinkable

I purchased a dozen each of the Alice, Apricot block and Seven Acre while I was there in October. I have been through at least half of each in the interim and no complaints... enjoyable each bottle and as a bonus no corkys, oxidizys or sloppys.

GC wines are a certain style, and if you like that style, excellent to drink within 6 years of vintage. I have had many bottles of 10+ years old GC, from bottom to top shelf stuff, and they are all flat, boring and no-where near as good as when they were young

that is very nice to hear. I still have 96,97,98 and 99 Seven Acre and Creek blocks left, haven't had a great one in at least 5 years. All of the above were wonderful wines young, but nothing special (to my taste, anyway) since. Having said that, you provide another example of a 90's "off" vintage producing quality stuff. I think both 1995 and 1997 have been very under-rated in both the Mclaren Vale and Barossa. (I still think the 97 Fox Creek Reserve Shiraz was by far the best of that line in that era)

hahaha, yes, good point. But for some silly reason, I refuse to send wines to auction, even dud ones. Prefer not to have the guilty conscience.

Thanks Felix, had a lad who was a 97 baby so brought up a bit.
I agree that all the hype at the time about 96 and 98 vintages did not help, but appears that 97 is panning out ok.
Yes have 98 Creek and 7 acre too, along with 97 creek block.

I have probably been pretty lucky with GC.
More so than the likes of Mersach, Command, Stonewell, Old Block...which at times have all been a bit hit and miss.
